Above us we have stickied Cosmo's welcome thread but this is an add on with elaboration to what makes up OffTopic.
Also, be easy on the guy. He's a frail man with good intentions.
Now on to business. What is Offtopic/The Flood? That debate could go on for ages and really no one's definition or experiences here are the same. What we can agree on is that it's a pool of nonsense. There are times when someone shits in the pool but everyone keeps swimming.
If you want an extensive History of the Flood, DTL and SquirrelDude worked hard on creating an elaborate thread (with multiple versions) to explain it all. With so many people that come in and out of the forums it truly is no surprise how lush the culture can be.
Over the years some of the most interesting ideas and groups have formed. We have had Flood FanFiction, sexy sangheili, mods who ban themselves for a nip slip, searches for clockman, gay dragons, yearly Schwippy Trees, and a Kitchen religion.
We've frog blasted vent cores, toast/enveloped our crush, survived the onslaught of meatspin, and celebrated a day for your Porch. That's all in the past though and today we're moving forward with a new generation of OffTopic.
A young generation who is sometimes unfamiliar with the inner workings of the site.
Offtopic, along with the entirety of the site, is policed by Forum Ninjas. Or Moderators. They work in their personal volunteered time to Keep it Clean.
The experience can become overwhelming and some what isolating as clear answers to questions are rather difficult to find.
In order to help ease that I'll do my best to explain the tools at your disposal.
Here on Bungie we have a mute feature. This is exceptionally useful for spammers, "trolls" or simply those who make your enjoyment here lesser. When you click on their profile you have the option to "mute". If you're muting them for violating the CoC remember to report them! If it's a long standing issue then message a moderator. They can help! It's what they're here for.
There is also an option to hide threads. I personally find this wonderful for hiding threads that I no longer wish to see which are constantly on front page. Or master threads that no longer hold interest. There's no shame or ill intent that comes with hiding threads. Your time here is for your enjoyment.
You can follow users as well. Particularly this is nice when people change their name or avatar often. Easily keep track of those who you fancy and FEEEED THEIR EGO at the same time.
As this moves along I will edit this thread appropriately
