There is [i]so much[/i] story in Destiny, but it's like a puzzle where many of the pieces are buried, hidden, or shattered into a billion pieces

Exactly, people who judge it like that are just stupid, because they barely look for the real lore. Can't wait for more story stuff!

That's just it though, I wish I knew if it was intentional or not, because of the story revisions that took place. If there were no story revisions, would we as the players have a better idea what was going on in Vanilla? Granted its not the first time Bungie has done this with their games. Halo is another one where not much was known, until they started publishing novels and whatnot. It could also just be their way of merchandising. While some game companies can sell on the story alone, Bungie does better with gameplay, multiplayer and merchandise, possibly.
