You clearly don't live in the US because the sale/purchase of stolen goods is illegal and whoever purchased the item is legally obligated to return the item. Not hard to prove the console is yours either since the PS3 is linked to your PSN account.

  • You clearly don't live in the us. People don't care if things are stolen, especially a ps4 its not like you're gonna be walking around with it.

  • I want you to think very hard about what is wrong with everything you just said. The PlayStation was stolen by his drug using uncle (no offense to OP) to steal from your own nephew for money to buy drugs implies the man has no morals/ wants money for drugs more than he cares about his relationship with his family. Secondly if I sell you a PlayStation your first question isn't "is this stolen?" It's ridiculous for you to think that everyone apart of this whole situation are upstanding law abiding citizens. Grow up that's not the world you live in, and that is not what America is like. You must live in a beautiful fantasy.

  • Actually, I referenced what he said about getting it back and referenced other replies he commented on about his uncle going to jail and charges being pressed. And judging his uncle like that makes you a horrible person because when people go through hard times they do cruel shit and sometimes will try to get help if pushed hard enough. Don't be an ass and learn to read through comments

  • Have you ever been through something like this? After enough times you become numb to it. There's no point in sugar coating it. At that point his uncle only cares about one thing and it's not what it should be which is helping himself. I may be desensitized but I'm nowhere near cruel. And secondly you replied to the OP telling him that he must clearly not live in the states because tho purchaser is legally required to return stolen property yada yada. I understand that but the reality is he'd have to spend more money going through the motions to get the system back than he would to simply replace it. Unfortunately the law doesn't care about what happened to him. They'll charge his uncle for the sale of stolen goods but they can't charge the purchasing party, and if they say they don't have the system (which they likely will because they will not be refunded if it's returned to its rightful owner) then that's where the case dies. It's happened to me and I've seen it happen dozens of times. Unfortunately for me I grew up poor everything I had as a kid I had to save my money and buy. Plenty of it got stifled by neighborhood kids. My sisters father even. It's a sad thing but it makes you hard and immune to it. So I apologize for my lack of sympathy but I'm not gonna sit here and try and get the OPs hopes up when I know it's not gonna happen. Now if he started a gofundme for a new ps4 I would gladly chip in $20.

I didn't read your post nor am I bothering to reply right now. You're quick to judge his uncle so I'll reply later.

  • You could also just give a drug dealer the console, or sell it to an individual buyer.

  • Post says he sold it for drug money, ruling out an exchange with a dealer for drugs unless he worded his edit wrong. Individual buyer, all uncle has to do is say who it was. Same goes if it was a dealer. Man needs to have charges pressed on him anyways so he can be forced into rehab.

  • Do you know how a pawn shop works? If the police are involved, they have to release the item to the authorities and lose whatever money they put into it. All he has to do is prove its his which isn't hard. When a console is linked to an account, its done so using the serial number of the device. If they press charges on his uncle, they are guaranteed to give it back.

  • Yup, sure do. The drug addict will have already pawned the item, gotten the money, and gotten high well before the police arrive to track down the stolen item. Believe me a stolen Xbox is at the bottom of the list of priorities. And if the family member chooses not to press charges, then the cops won't be investigating at all.

Pawn shops run items against a directory of stolen goods on multiple occasions. If they're legal pawn shops that is. Then again, if they sold the item already it's a different story. Was just a ps3 though, easily replaced. They just need to focus on getting his uncle help or keeping him out of their house.

  • Exactly, when it's stolen within the family, rarely is it reported stolen.
