  • The eula is the problem here. It's an industry wide prob that they can put whatever they want in it & u don't even see it til after u paid for & installed it.

  • Doesnt make it OK. I pay for it, it should be mine. Capitalism didn't thrive on license agreements, it did so on the power of a dollar to buy you something that is yours. Companies have too much control over your stuff after it leaves their possession. I guess i didn't buy Destiny? I must have leased it. And I didn't purchase 2 expansions? I only signed on for a temporary pass. Just cuz that's what it says in the license agreement doesn't make it ok. It's greedy & shows utter disregard for the customer. Fight for your rights as a consumer or be prepared to lose them. If more ppl read it & digested it well enough, Destiny may not have been very successful.

Edit: for some reason, I thought you were saying the TOS stated they couldn't file a class action. As for the TOS being binding -- I'm pretty sure that's been fought in courts in the past and won. Couldn't provide specific cases though; could be wrong, but I seem to recall several.

I can make any contract I want and have you agree to it, doesn't mean it's legally binding or will stand up in court. I should know, I'm a contractor who has dealt with disputes in the past

The ones that spout this "you signed the tos" nonsense hasn't read it either lol. If they did they would know it was indeed, nonsense.

  • If so, games that OP listed would have been sued to. If they don't want to buy it, it's on them.

  • I don't believe any of those games *removed* content upon releasing expansions. I haven't played them, so someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

  • They haven't. Gear and items always get replaced by better gear in mmo type games, BUT you can still buy gear made from 10 years ago. WoW for example: -Has access to all previous instances, raids and dungeons. No lockouts. The que lets you pick from a list. If you want to play 10 year old content you can. They also have reworked all the old instances content to work with current que protocols. - Legacy vendors for gear no longer accessible from the current gear vendors. - all pvp battlegrounds are available. - expansions don't overwrite existing content and make it accessible. If the zone has a new quest line in it's area, they use a technique called phasing to not let you see it. While other people are playing the new content 5 feet from you. They figured this out when Cataclysm released. That's just a few examples of how WoW has not compromised your old purchases in any way. -

  • I just did my part and reported it to the BBB. I'm sure the right lawyer could win a case of this type but the only one who will end up profiting is the firm itself. The rest will get a check of change, a nd the content will remain the same because they paid a settlement. The best thing to do is not buy, relay the info and alert the local consumer authority. I.e. BBB or the Attorney General. This situation sucks, even if I wanted to buy TTK, I won't because I am a man of principle.

  • EULA. You should check it out. And actually dig into it, not just skim it.

  • I'm well aware of the EULA. Doesn't make right, ethical, or moral and the consumer law makers need to know about gaming business practices. A lot of industries get flack for what they do, gaming should be no different because I "prefer" it as a hobby.

  • The BBB can't do anything. The software license agreement is pretty airtight.

  • I don't expect them to do anything. They are there to report information. Bureaucracy. Same as the Attorney General. If they deem it unethical or immoral they will go about it their own way.

  • Certainly. No one aside from the lawyers would get anything substantial, but the point would be to punish Bungie / Activision so that they don't repeat it in the future.

  • I bloody hope they repeat it in the future because the change is refreshing, it has been exciting to play and still shit tonnes of content hidden in Easter eggs. You don't want it ? Fine, you go out and buy metal gear and complete it, so you complain because you completed the content and there isn't any more? No you move on and I highly doubt you would replay it again any time soon, bungie offers an evolving world with a 10 year plan which was noted at market pitch before launch, anyone buying Destiny because Destiny doesn't deserve the buttons on their device to post if they did not research this before buying

  • They are trying to see how far they can push it toward a digital download & subscription based or streaming only gaming industry. The very reason there was a flap before Microsoft reversed its position on the One. They want to see how much shart you will take & come back for more with a fistful of dollars.

  • Basically. The shafting of content is on a different scale. On top of all that, they wanna see what they can and can't get away with. It's almost slapping people in the face obvious. People are only arguing about the smaller picture and the "now" side of things. It's very short sided and shrouded in ignorance of what corporations are becoming this day in age.

  • Straw man argument. Nobody is complaining about not getting new content. They're complaining about being locked out of content they paid for (example, Hard Mode on vanilla story missions). You, yourself have played Vault of Glass 10 times and Crota's End 12 times. How many times have you replayed story missions on hard? Your argument that people don't (or shouldn't) replay the same content again and again is invalid based on your own experience. What you're effectively arguing is that Bungie can and should lock you out of the level 40 strikes today and make you pay an additional fee to unlock that content you already paid for. Then do it again and again.

  • What happens when an online only game closes down and service stops? Do refund happen? Free new game? No, it is very simple, you've purchased an online only title and subject to different clauses allowing progressive and extensive changes from initial product, legally content has to supply a certain creteria for a duration however once done it can change however the -blam!- they want to. Like it not, and realistically the only person you're hurting is yourself because most likely you will go and buy another title for just as much money and limited to the same structure or limited extent the game will reach, fact is TTK is a great expansion to the game and doom Sayers having not played it first hand cannot gripe at its quality without being scoffed at, I appreciate and sympathise with those who cannot afford said product ever but the reality is this, eat less bloody junk food or sate yourself with less beer or smokes,
