It's not a crutch. I'll admit I'm definitely not the best at pvp, but why would you NOT use the best gun? It's like someone in pve having a gally but choosing not to use it against a boss.
Pve: no gally, can't join my fire team.
Pvp: thorn? Crutchy scrub.
