Jaren Ward was the first wielder of it, and it was created by Tex Mechanica. He used it to free a small town, Palamon, from a dictatorial rule. Jaren was killed by Dredgen Yor, and Shin Malphur, Ward's protégé and adopted son, took up the Last Word. Shin used it to avenge Ward during the Showdown on Dwindler's Ridge
