• The Nine are a faction or race that live in the outer planets, probably Jupiter, and Saturn. The pyramid shaped ships we seen in the concept arts, this is them. They probably live in these ships. Orbiting the gas giants and possibly inhabiting the moons of these planets. The Nine and the awoken of the reef kinda have a thing. Weather or not they are allies.. I'm not sure. But in the lore, Uldren sent one of his mechanical crows to spy on them. The nine found out and as an apology gift the Queen sent the body of a HoW nobility (Not dead but stripped of its soul. The prison of elders is like a trophy room with body's with detached souls). Now about xûr, he's openly stated he is part of the nine. And he's being sent the perhaps as an emissary similar to the queens. Xûr is represented of what the the nine are like. Under his hood it looks like he has a shadowy head, like gas maybe. Or it may just be artificial to hide his identity. But that is what the nine are like. Then they are either) . A race that choose to embrace the darkness, ( similar to the hive which alters their appearance) .They are a completely different race that sought out the universe. Finally this brings us to there name, The Nine. What exactly does it mean? There are 8 planets in our solar system the 9th is not even a planet but a dwarf planet, Pluto. It's possibly the nine have originated from Pluto? So what are your ideas about the nine?

    • Similar to what pill Cosby said, but with the Vex. Everything's a historical simulation hidden in Vex coding, like a book on a library shelf. Outside the simulation, the Vex have won. They were able to bring their powers of time outside of the Vault successfully. Atheon, The Templar, Gorgons, Oracles, etc now walk the Solar System. What was the last City is now rubble, Vex temples being built over the ruins. The Traveler still stands, but Atheon (with the help of the Templar,) has harnessed its powers of Light, and is bending them to his will, thus creating the simulation we call "Destiny." He is studying Guardian behavior in order to learn how to properly defeat them, should they rise again. In the end, our defeat is inevitable.

        • THE NINE Ghost Fragments: Legends 2. This card actually tells us what the Nine are. They are a council of 9 groups from the outer reach. 1) Survivors of the Jovian Colonies (Jupiter) 2) Deep Orbit Warminds 3) levitation 4) Signal from Corona Borealis (constilation, possibly an alien race or a very far reaching colony) 5) the first awoken 6) ghosts sent out looking for guardians who didn't find any. 7) members of the darkness who the traveller managed to break free now with their own agenda 8) A.I. 9) not 100% sure what this is meant to mean. Is fairly obvious though.

          • The Traveler and the Darkness are not the same. The Travler isnt the Darkness. But they are working together. In the Book of Sorrows, it is said that Oryx and the Hive are not the Deep/Darkness. The sisters of Oryx question his leadership, ask if he is a puppet of the Deep/Darkness. Oryx does not feel that he is. He feels like the Hive are the pinnacle of what the Darkness hopes to achieve. He also seeks to destroy the Traveler, to devour it. He says this is what the Deep and the worm he feeds with death wants, but he is unsure as to why. He believes by the end he will understand all. Meanwhile, we know from another grimoire card about the black garden there is doubt about the Traveler. The flower in the shape of a ghost "you are a dead thing, made from a dead power. All you ever do is kill." We know that the Traveler has been on the run from the Darkness for a while. We also know from the Book of Sorrows that the Traveler will abandon the civilizations it builds up after a time, usually before the Darkness consumes them. We also know the Traveler arms these civilizations with amazing weapons. It helped one species weaponize its own sun, and gave humanity the Guardians, essentially super heroes who cannot die, or are extremely hard to kill consistently. So the Traveler weaponizes species. The Darkness comes, usually with the Hive leading the charge. This leads to massive, century long wars. Billions die. We know this death feeds the Darkness, makes it strong. Yet the Traveler always seems to get away. But Earth was different. Rasputin knew the war was a losing effort. He knew his fighting would be pointless. So he stopped fighting. Shut everything down. Why? Well the Traveler would be forced to defend its self. With the Hive out to destroy it, the Fallen out to reclaim it (more on that in a minute) and the Vex and Cabal at least interested in it, it was forced to do something. It fought back and saved itself. It created the Ghosts to create the Guardians to protect it as it repaired itself. Rasputin knew this would work. Knew the Traveler would fight back for self preservation. And knew the Darkness would not finish it. Knew that the Darkness would simply lurk and wait. The Darkness is a predator that feeds on death. The Traveler is a harbinger of that oncoming death. it makes civilizations strong and populous, so that when the Darkness comes there will be a massive war, so the Darkness can feed. That would explain why the Traveler was near the Fundament as the Hive formed. Why it has helped draw many different species together. For the Deep/Darkness to feed on the unimaginable death and destruction, and the ultimate creation of the Darkness' greatest tool, the Hive. None of the other races are in on this. The Hive are simply tools of the Darkness, barely willing. The Fallen are simply a species broken by the Travelers deception and seeking closure. The Cabal and Vex appear interested only in technology. The Cabal in particular have almost no interest in the Traveler. Yet when brought to this part of the galaxy, these 4 races, plus humanity and the Awoken, are in a state of perpetual war. This all plays into what the Darkness, and the Traveler, want. So what is the Traveler? My guess is this: its a soul ark. It is collecting the souls of different races into itself, to preserve the universe and all of its knowledge. It has a symbiotic relationship with the Darkness. The Darkness is a predator. The Traveler is a parasite.

            • I imagine the end of the destiny ten year franchise like this; Our guardians ship in space facing whatever the darkness is. Then the camera turns around to face us. Our guardian at tip leading the final attack on the darkness. Directly behind us are hundreds of guardians ready to charge, behind them is dead orbits fleet. They have changed philosophies and decided to stay and fight. Aboard their ships is every fighter for the FWC and new monarchy. The queens forces are also present along with the Harbingers, they are bolstering dead orbits fleet. To the left of them are all of the fallen houses united by the kell of kells. To the right of dead orbit are the remaining Cabal fleet in their military might. On the fallen and cabal flanks are automated defense satellites controlled by Rasputin, ready to defend as much as it can. After a few inspirational words by our guardian, we begin the final assault.
Nothing to do with lore I know, sorry.
• Very very very very very very short version: The vex are actually just the liquid in the center, the traveller created the robot vessels for them. That's what the black garden is, rivers of vex. The flowers grow from the rivers, therefore are part of the life force

              • I believe that with all the talk of the traveler and the darkness being a sort of symbiotic or conflicting natural balance that the goals of dead orbit are in fact futile. Now my characters are in dead orbit sure but for Me I just like the colors. But when it comes to the plan to leave, to abandon the traveler I flat out don't think guardians can. I think that we are either bound to the traveler in that are powers and those of our ghosts and out Longevity are tied to the traveler and the idea is if we leave we die. But that isn't all, does anyone remember Guilty Spark? The dick robot ball/covenant oracle in halo. When enacting its primary directive it is efficient and unquestioning, following that directive to the letter. The ghost and guilty spark share remarkable similarities, y'know aside from being a humorless floating light ball. They are helpful and well informed about things we have no idea about and serve as trusted advisors to the guardians. But I believe that only extends to the idea that the ghosts revive us for the sole purpose of protecting the traveler. With some people believe Rasputin in fact attacked the traveler to keep it from leaving and the traveler released the ghosts to create us to protect it while it repairs itself indefinitely. If the guardians left wouldn't our ghosts try to stop us? Maybe even kill us? Guilty spark reacted violently when master chief didn't go along with following its primary directive to protect the halo and wipe out the floods food. Maybe the ghost follows a similar logic. Guardians are only as useful as we are to them as long as we help the traveler. If we leave we might be either betrayed by the ghosts or abandoned by them, because we are no longer helping them achieve their goals. Not to mention that vast portions of the actual history of the collapse are gone. It's easy to indoctrinate new guardians to follow the ghost and traveler because the city says so, but that is too convenient knowing the travelers history with the fallen and what we as guardians are doing to them as they try to reclaim the great machine that spurned them. All guardians are following the directive of the traveler, through their ghost proxy.

I think the Stranger is Maya Sundaresh. Came to this conclusion yesterday with a friend, only to see that someone on Reddit already beat us to it. Damn that luck. But I also think that with the revelation of Ghost Fragments: Vex 5, Maya Sundaresh is heavily tied into the Future War Cult. It's fairly obvious that the machine they're using is the same machine the FWC uses, especially with the little nod at the end of the grimoire card...
Maybe it’ll become a tradition. The gospel of our little cult.
And also with the two grimoire cards being identical in structure. RECORD [__] - CHASM [___] Maya starts wondering about time travel in Vex 4, specifically
"Maybe you could bring something back to now. Something you needed." Maya runs a hand across the surface of the Vex aperture, feeling it with sensors ten thousand times as precise as a human hand. These proxy bodies are limited— they crash and need resetting every few hours, they struggle with latency, they can't hold much long term memory. But they'll get better. "Or go forward and learn something vital. If you knew how to control it, how to navigate across space and time."
The Stranger seems set on making you do something to change the course of history, but refuses to get directly involved herself. (She does kill a Vex that was already dying, however. No real impact on the future.) Our Ghost notices that she's not a Guardian, and she responds that she wasn't forged in Light. That might indicate that her EXO body was created well before the collapse [speculation]. Up in the quote above, you see Maya talking about the proxy bodies that need resetting, very clearly early EXO technology. We know that the numbers after EXO names are how many times they've reset. Banshee says "How many times have I been reset? 41? 42?..........43?" Snippets of Ghost Fragment: EXO
Why are Exo minds human? What's the design imperative? Why does a war machine - yes, absolutely, I am a war machine, built by human hands; and you are a survival machine built by the engine of evolution. Why does a war machine have emotions? Why should a war machine have awareness? These are not useful traits on the battlefield. [W]hy should the Exo mind mimic the human architecture so closely? Now. This is what I believe happened, back in the time before any Exo can remember. It explains everything. I think someone wanted to live forever.
Perhaps the Ishtar Research Team (Maya, Chioma, Duane-McNiadh and Shim) saw the usefulness of having a synthetic body and went forward with creating the EXOs. But I think that with Maya's interest in changing the future, she perhaps became an EXO before they were forged in Light, thereby "living forever." She went into her Future War Cult machine, saw a future of the destruction and wanted to change it. Ghost Fragment: The Exo Stranger points me in that direction. The Exo Stranger is clearly using the FWC machine, and has done it many times too. Seeing as Maya was the first one to ever start it up, even if she wasn't the first to use it, there's a pretty clear connection. Lots of speculation, and my mind is buzzing right now, you'll have to forgive me for starting to ramble. I might come back and try to fill in some more. EDIT: Related/exact same thing but in its own topic.

                    • The traveler is our evil father and the exo stranger our saintly mother. We are drifting somewhere in between. The Evil traveler has tricked us into doing his bidding by use of his ghosts, while the exo stranger has spoken to us directly but has been veiled about our place in the scheme of things. That's because the primary directive is that we think we are acting by our own will or the fabric of the universe will fall apart

                    • Okay so here I go. My theory is all guardians are the traveler itself. Not only is the traveler the size of DEEZ NUTS. But the guardian is actually the traveler. Okay first off the guardians are good, the traveler is good. Now here comes the truth the traveler is white the guardian is white. Therefore whites are good. In the grimoire the traveler is described as
Some random floating thingy
many could say that guardians are floating thingys because physics are unsweg and are for warcocks. Ok here comes the insane part. As seen in destiny the traveler is oryx cuz it's taken or sum shit. Ok the guardians have been taken from the core of the earth and being dragged to the ground when they try and fly because of some satan crap but the point is guardians are taken from the ground! ITS CRAZY. If you don't support this you are wrong and your opinion is invalid because I don't agree with it.

                        • The traveler and we guardians are the real enemy. The other alien races are simply trying to survive and fight back. Think about it, were zombies with powers. Even Rasputin wants to kill the traveler and sees him as the darkness. The fallen refer to us as part of the darkness.
