Are you afraid of Dying?

Does that ever cross anyone's mind? Does it bother you that when your time ends, which is inevitable, you may cease to exist Or Death} Why would I fear something that only exists when I do not?

  • I'm obsessed with death. Not like watching people die..but the concept of death. The one great unknown that is inescapable.

  • Think about it this way, we've all been dead before. Do you remember the time before you were born? No so there is no afterlife

    • Am I afraid of dying? No. Am I afraid to have to end my time with my husband and children? Absolutely.

      • Questions like this make my reevaluate my existence. In such a colossal universe, it's near-impossible to possibly comprehend how small and, unfortunately, menial our existence as the Human race truly is. We are but a minuscule speck in life. I often wonder what's out there; we're most definitely a small species, imagine how immense other planets can be and, consequently, how many possibilities of life there are out there. Being an atheist, it's quite worrying to think that we are just 7 billion entities floating in the great vacuum of space, helpless to stop anything that chooses to attack us. We could be wiped out in an instance. Everything that we have accomplished- the wheel, the Pyramids, communication through radio signals, every documentation of what had, what is, and what ever will happen on Earth- would be obliterated. All traces of our existence would be destroyed. Gone. And what genuinely scares me is that nobody would remember us. After all, in such an immense life, we're nothing. A mere speck. Who (or should I say what) would bother to even spare a thought to measly little Earth and its puny little 7,000,000,000 ish semi-intelligent life forms? Apparently Space is ever expanding. An infinite space for infinite possibilities. Which most surely mean that what I've just described had happened to a world now. They have been completely obliterated and we didn't even know- won't ever know that it happened. And to you, reader, who reads, hear this. Not to depress you, but odds are, even if you are the most important person to have ever lived on our measly planet, you will never make a difference to anything outside of our solar system. Hell, even Voyager 1, the furthest thing possible away from us, is still within range of our Solar System. That is minuscule when looking on a scale of our Galaxy. And the Galaxy is minuscule when looking at a universal scale. It is never ending. TL;DR: I get a real kick out of depressing people.

        • I don't fear death. If I die then I'm dead. It's a CYCLE of life. It's not something we can avoid. Yes of course I try to evade any possible way of dying or take precautions, but if it's a situation I can't escape then I can only accept my fate. I can't expect to live a long life because I could die tonight, unknowingly.

          • I accept that I'll die eventually.. As long as I don't leave too many of the ones(Well, one, I only truly love and care for one person specifically in this world.) I love and care for in the world behind.

          • Honestly I just accept my mortality and be as good of a person as I can be and make everyone's lives a little bit better.

          • Not really. It's inevitable. I've had a number of near death experiences in the past and it's actually what got me into doing stuff like skydiving. I got addicted to the adrenaline rush that came from it.

          • I'm not afraid of death. I know it'll happen eventually, and I also know it won't happen to me for a very, very long time. Of course I would fight for my life if my death is preventable, but I'm not going to freak out when I start dying of old age. And when the time comes, I'll come to terms with it, and accept death's embrace.

            • People that say they aren't afraid of death are spouting bullshit. No one wants to die, and many will fight until their last breath to keep death from taking them. Death will always be terrifying as no one can be certain what exists (if anything) after we die.
