Did you account for 3 point perspective?
You need a third fixed point of reference to gauge distance between the dreadnought and the rings.
I can pretty much guarantee that it is not 5 million meters if not for the sole fact that you can't use a sparrow inside.

Maybe it's because we can't have sparrows teleported inside just like if we were inside any other building or structure in the game.

More like when you do the first mission on any planet, you have to activate the (whatever it's called) so that your sparrow link is enabled. Why would Oryx let us get our Sparrows on his ship? It might make sense in the raid if he's losing control of the ship.

Exactly! I think we are going to breach the ship due to an explosion or something. Then set up something up that allows us to continue to get to it.

If you want a good frame of reference watch the trailer. It shows the dreadnaught surrounded by a bunch of mosquitos. Those mosquitos are hive tomb ships..

In other cutscenes, you see that the Dreadnaught is in the same plane as the rings.
