Microsoft only changed the Xbox after negative response from all their fans, and to compete with Sony.
Remember how MS wanted it to be, always on Internet connection, spy camera watching you, DRM and so much more.
Its less about the console and more about the company's ideology. The same ideology they're displaying over windows 10.
YOU are the product.
ADVERTISERS are the customer.
Microsoft sells [i]your[/i] info to [i]them.[/i]
They keep going back to the same business model because that's where the big money is.
The Sony philosophy of approaching game developers in the years before PS4 arrived to find out what they needed, built on a solid foundation of putting gamers first and helped win sales, and the PS4 hardware is better anyway so it's a no brainer.

Also, they're not about putting the gamers first. If they were, they would worry about the security if their PSN, only now are they.

Dude, I doubt Sony was an angel. Every company would love that power, Sony probably had unlikable features, but after seeing the hate they clearly pulled back.

Sony isn't much better. They plagiarize Nintendo quite a bit, remember Playstation move? Or how about the PS Vita acting like the Wii U Game Pad in every way? I'm not disagreeing with you, but Sony isn't all that great.

Vita acting as second screen was a thing before the WiiU. You could do it on some PS3 titles.

Mind you, the Wii U was out for a while before the new generation came to be. And while I lack the effort to do precise research, there is another act of plagiarism. Sony Smash Bros, is the nickname I believe?

Sony had the same exact plans as Microsoft did in the beginning and Sony changed everything once they saw the negative reactions from the Xbox One revealing Famitsu did an interview with the Sony president that admitted to it. Look it up. Sony is just a sleezy corporation like many others.
