I know it's a big update...but check this out: The patch took an hour to download, and then 10 minutes passed before my characters would load and they never did...so I quit outta destiny, loaded it again, and now it's re-installing the patch at 53% and it's been like this for 30 minutes. This makes absolutely zero sense to me as to why it ALREADY downloaded, then took forever again and when I quit out and reloaded the game, it's as if it never downloaded in the first place.
