Unsportsmanlike Behavior in PVP

Hello Guardians, (Make sure to read the edits at the bottom of this post) I am proud to say that I am an avid supporter of the Destiny community. However, there is a line that is crossed CONSTANTLY while playing Trials of Osiris, and any other form of PVP. Every week, I hop onto Destiny with friends and clan mates in order to dominate the playing field in order to gain the Trials gear. With that said, there are many groups of people that can best us, whether our game is off, or they are just overall better at Trials. After winning the match (and during the match), there is many people "teabagging" and showing unsportsmanlike behavior. Not only do people do things non-verbally, there is many times that players have messaged me calling me out for me and my clan's skill level, which I find disrespectful. All in all, I don't expect this to stop. It is sadly a part of the competitive gaming culture. However, I think that Destiny as a gaming community is one of the greatest. PVE is the prime example of this. Random strangers will help you out in tough encounters with enemies, help you complete the raid if you never have, cheer you on for gaining cool loot and much more things that make this game extremely different from any other. I would LOVE to see this more in Destiny PVP. I am not asking for the skilled players to be less competitive, or to purposely lose a round. If you want to go 5 - 0, do it! I encourage you. However, reframe from being rude to fellow players. They are here because the love playing the game, just like you. If this topic has been touched upon before, I apologize for not looking into it. I wanted to voice my own opinion and I hope that you can respect this. If you agree with this, please comment your thoughts. I would like to see this on the trending forum post so that Bungie can see this. EDIT: After reading many messages, let me make a few things clear. I am not raging, nor am I a sore loser. What I am saying is there is a lot of rude people who play the game and that goes with ANY multiplayer game. That's how it is! And I am not a fan of teabagging because it is degrading and shows that the players think they are the shit. However I could care less. The thing that pisses me off the most is when people message me afterwards with rude messages. Now just because I dislike these things, doesn't mean I can't handle it. I love Destiny and it's community, and what I am trying to say, is that we are better than that. To all of you people who have commented stories of helping others to the lighthouse, congratulating people on their performance, thank you. You are the guardians that deserve the rewards. You guys have fought, won, and continue to win afterwards because of your awesome leader skills. Final Edit: Thank you for all the feedback. Once again, this isn't about having my feelings hurt, or that people are bullies and need to stop (which bullying is a serious issue), its more about how you act. Most of you are taking the Teabagging part of this post to literally. Overall I am saying is don't be a dick. However, I did recognize that it is impossible to eliminate that behavior. I have been told many stories of cyberbullying that has occurred through Destiny, and I think that shouldn't be okay to do. I am the voice for the people that are scared to be judged or bullied on online forums or in game for voicing their opinions.

  • Well said. Being that Destiny has multiple kinds of emotes I use them accordingly. If somebody teabags us and then we proceed to beat them, we dance on their corpses. But if they put up a good fight and don't teabag or otherwise, and the we proceed to beat them, my team and I salute them. Should be something that is done more often.

  • Look you have to remember who you're dealing with here . . . mostly kids. And for the most part don't have a lot of good manners or class. These are things that are learned with time and experience. That's not to say that there are no very polite young people playing this game. I'm also sure that there are some rude and obnoxious older people here too.

As you stated in your edit and annoying as it is, you won't be able to weed out this behavior. I get really upset if it's clear the other team is intentionally either manipulating their connection or performing a low level DDOS, and then "teabagging" after winning the match. It happened once this past weekend and a couple of times over the last few months (very obvious cheating behavior, not simply a bad connection). The teabagging this past weekend, along with being waved at while I was shooting this particular individual who was not taking any damage was a dead givaway. I only hope Bungie continues to investigate the reports while ToO is on hiatus.

    • I guess maybe I am old school. I come from the school where 'teabagging' was basically the same as being able to say 'who's your daddy?' or some such. I have tasted the salty sack of defeat, and I have offered a salty sack for tasting, after a glorious win. We have to be politically correct in the real world. We have to be cautious of people's feelings in the real world. In the real world, we have to be nice. I game to get AWAY from the real world. Granted, if you suck, I am not going as far as sending you a message about it, but you will leave the match with my salt on your lips. Get over it. Get better, and you can decide if you want to put your sack up for offer. If you don't, good for me. If you do, good for you. With regard to cyber bullying on Destiny. I have yet to see this. I guess I don't know how that happens. Do you join a bad group in a raid, who abuse you and belittle you the whole way thru? Are you part of a clan who calls you names? If you are in a group that you don't like, leave. You have an ignore/block feature. Use it. You have a report function. Use it. I know Sony has the feature to report messages that are sent via their network. Use it. And as far as being judged in this game....you are judged by the score you carry and the armor you wear. That is going to happen. All I can tell you is make some friends. Learn how to 'teabag' with impunity. I 'teabag' after I earn a win. And if you are a good player who put up a fight...I also send a friends request.

      • T-bagging doesn't bother me, I just dance on the persons ghost if I get them back (and then usually get gunned down during said dance). What does annoy me is getting messaged being called a "cheater" or a "dick head" because I happened to kill someone a few times on a lucky run. Being told I'm being reported to Sony. I mean come one. Some ppl are just natural bell ends and can't take a kicking (me neither, I threw my headset across the room last week cos I couldn't get a kill), but the messaging is ridiculous.

      • I used to considering teabagging offensive, but it is really just a form of taunting your enemy. You sniped me 3 times in a row before I finally got you? I'm gonna teabag as a way to say "Bring it on" and definitely expect teabagging in retaliation. If I'm in a game where we completely steamroll another team the furthest thing from my mind. People need to not be so thin skinned.

      • The very fact that Bungie included emotes such as dancing means they considered crap talking and tea bagging from the Halo games and wanted to bring something forward to their new baby/franchise. It's just a thing now...Dunno if you've ever played basketball, but "shit-talking" gets real and hits home. So tea bag me all day long I say.

        • I hate teabagging. Honestly, I think about the fact that it even exists, and I'm like, "what 12-year-old came up with that?" On the other hand, it seems to be a cultural norm, and, well...when in Rome, and all that. I used to refuse to do it, no matter what. Now I will do it occasionally, usually in retaliatiation. Sometimes, though, I see it happen to me and think, "Yeah, I earned that one." I mean, when you nova bomb the right side of the doorway and land, defenseless, among the enemy...you're getting a baggin'. When I do it, however, I prefer to call it a Victory Crouch*. I can't God-point (be nice to get an emote for that, now that I think of it), but the Victory Crouch comes close. * If you like, you could call it the Freedom Crouch, because 'murrika!

        • Man, only thing is that sometimes you really, REALLY earn the right to Bag someone. I find that to be more of a social norm now, more of a "HA I killed you" and not directly "HA I killed you bc skill". It can certainly be used to a douchey effect as well, but that's the beauty of the tea bag you know? You can burn or be burned. I feel as though you may be able to start a sub community within Destiny (possibly another clan even) that is dedicated to competitive gameplay on a more respectful scale, and I really wouldn't be surprised to see the group grow rapidly. Many people still exist who play respectfully and reasonably, and with all the crying about recent events in the Solar System I know there are Guardians itching to join what they deem a proper group for carnage.

        • When my friend's and I are doing crucible, and someone teabags one us we just call their name out and everyone goes out of their way to own them the rest of the match. Most of the time they are a little squeaker anyways. Try not let it get to you.

        • If someone teabags when you are losing 4-0 and you clutch it 5-4 then in my eyes you have reason to teabag

anyone who message me after a bad match calling me name i report to Sony PSN. they are more swift than bungie in regard to ban offending people or restrict their use of specific feature like message/chat/party.. but to be honest tea-bagging means nothing.. a lonely guy in a dark room clicking his O button ? lol..

        • I like your post, but until I get penalized in-game for teabagging after I assert a certain amount of dominance between myself and another player (ie. Dodging a Striker's FoH and proceeding wreck said Striker's face), the teabagging is a perpetual concept reserved for certain feats in which one deems teabag-worthy. I am TheResinater1620 and my opinion has been voiced.
