I think the biggest issue, is that Primary weapons with an Elemental damage type, got placed on such a high pedestal. They are a pain in th bottom to earn, relying solely on luck. Now if they altered things in a big way, it may make a difference, maybe not.
But let me take you on a little adventure, with a little story.
I started running The Vault, on Hard trying to get this glorious little weapon called Fatebringer, nothin super special if you really look close. But Firefly, and Arc on my Favorite type of weapon? i HAD to have one. So i ran that Templar every week, on hard, on all three characters. Often not completing the Raid due to the disappointment of not getting they jewel of my Eye. Finally i got this Glorious monster. I used it everywhere. The only time i did not pull it out was on nightfalls with non arc burns.
Now let me get where i am going with this. If i could, for example, pick up a sweet Red Hand from New Monarchy, then go bust out a sweet quest to add an Element to that Hand Cannon, it would make a whole new playing field. Would i miss my Fatebringer? Yeah you bet. But if i could EASILY replace it with another Arc Handcannon, i would store it, and but is out on special occasions like a Vault Run.
I want my Year one weapons to remain relevant, but if i had an option to get random elements on random weapons, i would gladly make attempts to run at them. I could finally get A solar, Arc and Void handcannon set for nightfalls.
Maybe then i would be ok with it, maybe some other people would be too.
