In conclusion: - Man is angry at Activision for overstepping their bounds in not using his music in a single E3 trailer, in his opinion. Bungie supports man, but Activision overrules anyways. - Man gets fired for a history of poor and disruptive behavior based on creative differences in response to Activision. Activision threatened continued behavior would jeopardize their contract with Bungie (which Bungie needed to make this game we all love). - Bungie's board fires man for his disruptive behavior and poor workplace performance, echoed by his coworkers. - Bungie does the wrong thing by not giving him his owed vacation time and company shares according to his contract. - Separate arbitrations award him his vacation time money and company shares. What part of this has anything to do with us? I think you're stretching a lot.

That's true too. Activision had rights to marketing materials as they sought fit and he threw a tantrum over it simply because they used their own music.

  • Yeah that guy had no right to be pissed off that they didn't use his music in the trailer after he just got done making 10 -blam!-ing years worth of it. Dumb -blam!-ing desticle.

  • A trailer. A single trailer. You're gonna get pissed off about one single trailer out of years of more trailers to come, and 10 years of in-game music/audio that you also made? Do you not understand that Activision has rights to produce the bulk advertising of Destiny, not Bungie? Learn some perspective jackass.

  • What word? It's in their contract to do marketing and advertising you idiot. They were never required to use his music.

  • Oh they do? Look like you didn't read the article.
Ryan, the CEO of Bungie, and management shared his concern and filed a “veto” letter with Activision, which overruled the objection.
• They tried to veto but because of the contract, which Bungie signed and agreed to, Activision has majority rule over advertising. Their board disagreed wit changing the music so they overruled the veto. Why could they do that? Because they put up 9/10th of the money for marketing and were the ones doing the advertising at E3. I'll wait for you to google that one yourself. And please explain how any of that is going back on a promise? What promise was made to Marty?

  • So is that why later trailers don't use activisions music but Marty's? Funny how overruling objections with veto letters work. Lol I think you need to go back to google again, bro.

It wasn't intended as literally, but then why are you here? I could argue that anyone who feels inclined to post here on the Destiny forums at some level does so because they have a love for the game.

  • Hatred for the community that supports this obvious money grab that could have been our generations " Star Wars ". Cut into bits for huge profits and creating a devastating future market model. I return to abuse those that aid in the draining of creativity and " complete " games from our world....when I have nothing better to do or like now being forced to watch a bad movie with my lady. Don't support this model.

I don't know why you think that because nothing spoken about in that article has anything whatsoever to do with the community. How is an internal squabble over employee benefits between employee and employer hatred towards us or draining creativity in ANY way? People, pull your heads out of your cynical asses and read the actual article in full. Learn how to interpret the situations that unfolded without glossing over the details instead of blindly listening to the first negative thought you have.

  • Activision changed creative things about destiny, which O'Donnell felt hurt the game. O'Donnell got really angry then got shafted by both Activision and bungie. For me it completely changed my viewpoint of bungie

According to the article he felt hurt that they created their own separate trailer and didn't use the music he created for Destiny. He complained to them, they denied his request for them to use the music he created in place of theirs. He complained to Bungie, they supported him and complained to Activision. Activision denied them. This is over a trailer for E3 mind you. After that incident he became disruptive at meetings and continued to protest. Activision threatened that if his behavior continued they would cancel their contract with Bungie (which means he must have done some really bad stuff). He went on a vacation later and when he got back, the team complained that he was uncooperative and underperforming. All good reasons for any company to fire an individual, co-founder or not. Maybe your viewpoint is changed because you haven't seen this kind of stuff before and maybe haven't worked at any large companies or studios to know that this shit happens pretty frequently all over.
