CONFIRMED: BUNGIE SOLD ITS SOUL...

AND THEY GAVE US THE MIDDLE FINGER!!! The ODonnell vs Bungie legal battle is over and the truth prevail and is visible for all of Us to see and confirm that BUNGIE NO LONGER CARES FOR QUALITY, BUNGIE NO LONGER CARES FOR THEIR FANS, BUNGIE ONLY CARES OF PROFITS. Marty stood against Activision decision to transform the musical score of Destiny from a gourmet dinner to a fast food meal. Ex-Bungie composer Marty O’Donnell wins epic legal fight with former bosses. Based on this information and how obsessed by quality and fans are Marty and Joseph Staten, We can imagine why Joseph also left Bungie and maybe that the Destiny original story theory is not so a theory but a reality. If Activision messed with the music then for sure they messed with the story. Even Marcus Lehto is gone. Seriously, this is really disappointing, for the first time since Pathways Into Darkness Im disgusted with Bungie. Marty, You have proven that You really cared for Us. Your place in history will always be bright and inspiring. What a shame Bungie, really what a shame...

  • I love being able to see details in these things due to court...really shows how much Activision are a bunch of asshats. I liked how bungie at least sided at first, of course they really didn't have too much choice on firing him...though the stock share debacle was a dick move

What? How did you even come up with that conclusion? The article said he was trying to defend Bungie's creativity from Activison. The rest is just legal stuff. Shame on you for not being able to read.

  • Just the fact that someone is going over these comments and downvoting the ones that put some criticism toward O'donnell or doesn't conform 100% with your conspiracy theory, proves that this community has people in it that are more grunts on the teat than anything else. Things have nuances, and Bungie is a company. A company that is supposed to make money. They wanted to make a huge game. Hinted at already in ODST. They signed with Activision to get funded. This game cost a lot of money to make. I bet most of you don't even realise just how much goddamn work making a huge game like Destiny is. I'm sure Activision has imposed some limitation to rush the game, and pissed off some old timers at bungie that later bailed, but come on. You're all acting like Bungie went from being a caring single dad that always was there to listen, to him being an angry old granddad that only feed you scraps off the dinner table. Bungie still cares. Listen to Lukems and Deej. I see no other devs out there that have such an outward face to their fanbase. Things were never black or white with Bungie.

    • Did you forget the satire tag? That article paints that guy as self-aggrandizing, and disruptive. Bungie lost a legal battle over the rights to stock options. That doesn't mean they sold out; that means they really didn't like that guy.

    • Yet going through the comments people will continue to deep throat bungie cause they have too much pride to go against something they've been promoting even after it fails.. All time high ego with an all time low IQ = destiny forums

    • TL;DR - Bungie and O'Donnell both went way beyond what they should have done, because of an Activision faux-pas. Everything the OP posted in conjecture cherry-picked and out of context or downright not mentioned by the article. What the article says, when you read it: O'Donnell and Bungie bother overreacted and overstepped what they should have done when this disagreement arose but, in both cases, it is Activision's fault. AV could have just used O'Donnell's music in their trailers but decided that they, as the publishing company, would go a different route. Nothing legally was required for them to make this change but they did insult a man in a direct leadership position at Bungie. He went way overboard with his reaction, and then Bungie did the same. Both are responsible for their egregious reactions but is was Activision who, without performing an illegal act, ignored a long-standing tradition and 'unspoken' agreement with O'Donnell. The problem is the agreement was unspoken, and O'Donnell really did throw a hissy-fit. The other problem was Bungie either had to fire a board member over this churlish display or breach a 10-year, $500 million publishing and advertising contract. If I had to choose between the two you can bet I'd get rid of the malcontent potentially costing me my company, employee base, and product. Forget the fact the owners of Bungie would loose out, the entirety of the employees could have lost their livelihoods. O'Donnells desire for publicity does not outway Bungie as a whole. That said, Bungie way over-reacted, though you can speculate that Activision pushed them to act harshly as they did. In any case, Bungie legally overstepped what they should have done and were punished for it, as decided by the courts.

        • Look I agree Bungie did some wrong with destiny but it was Activision that told them to chop the story, who chopped the music, not Bungie. Again I'm not saying their blameless but Activision is the real evil here and you really can't fight back that much against a company like that and has that much invested in something your doing. I'm pretty sure at any time Activision could have said "well we don't like what your doing if you don't change it we will terminate the contract and that 5 mill is coming with us."

          • It's been clear since 2010 that Bungie has lost it's "soul" - even take a look at their websites, side by side. Remove any of the Halo/Destiny elements, and this version is a sad shell of what it once was in terms of the humor, the subtle nuances to their old games. The company has lost of some it's greatest minds, and to be honest, I can understand why. Destiny is a decent game, and if you are fan, fine. However, blithely defending any company (And a publishing deal) that has produced numerous lies and points of deceit, is not acceptable. Bungie, of course, will never respond to this - however, it's clear that the deal we were displayed in 2010 was never the deal they signed off on.

            • Very good read, thanks for the link. It's sad to see the truth sometimes. Can't believe what they tried to do to such a legend in music composition. I hope this doesn't ruin the future of Destiny.

Bravo sir. This was a very eye opening read. Bungie reminds me too much of another sellout company I have personal issues with, and I can't really see myself continuing to support them couped with Activision, ever. I base these feelings on what I've read about their development as of late and obviously this situation.

              • I think you may have read it wrong, Activision recommended his termination, because Activision replaced the original trailer score with their own stuff. Then when O'Donnell was frustrated about the whole thing, Activision basically said to Bungie to drop him because "he could constitute a breach of the parties contracts... What it sounds like is that Activision basically "corrupted" Bungie by going behind their musical director and then firing him because he got mad about not being told his score for the trailer would be used on a last minute ditch effort.

Do you people actually believe this Marty character filed a lawsuit because he cares about you??!!! He did it for money. 100% money. The same thing you are criticizing Bungie for. You hatersheep really need to think objectively about these things. Marty doesn't give a shit about you, only his money.

                  • Now I feel bad for supporting this game. I never really played Halo extensively, but I had heard a lot of great things about Bungie. TTK has to impress me to the moon if I am to continue playing this game. The negatives surrounding Destiny are beginning outweigh my value for the game itself.

                    • Same thing that probably happened to Joe Staten. He left bc they were trying to manipulate him and his story. Do you know he spent close to 5 years working on it? Pretty sure he took 85% of the story with him. Thus why the original release date was pushed. Thus why our story we have now makes no sense and is just thrown together.

I said at day -blam!-ing 1 they cut tons of content to sell to us as dlc which is why they had the all the DLC in the first trailer and on disc during launch, the game had a better story and had tons more content then what we got, all the fanboys cried I was a liar and crazy for not trusting bungie and look who is laughing now sheeple. The evidence is in what we got lets see. game was missing tons of story and content we saw in trailer. The article talks about massive change toward release date. Game had day 1 season pass/ DLC preorder. The content in the trailer is in fact now dlc, see the reef in the original trailer as one example. DLC content is found on disc because people glitched into it and even collected ghosts. Story made no sense and was extremely short. worlds promised in trailer was not found in vanilla destiny such as saturn. Game mechanics such as your drop ship dropping you off as well as friends live during game play doesn't appear also destructible drops ships as well ( this is said because it wouldn't work on the older consoles and they wanted to maximize profits so they weakened current gen destiny for old gen destiny, they sort of admitted they took down the graphics etc of current gen destiny to keep it on par with last gen)
