If I was religious then I would value pleasing my god over keeping my job. Anyone who cares more about keeping their job doesn't really care about their god.

I'm a smart guy so I would realize that it's both illegal and not doing my job if I didn't hand out these marriage licenses. If I thought it was a sin to do that then I'd rather be jobless than openly sin against my god. Anyone who is in that position should really just quit.
