Can the rings destroy things such as souls? If so, Halo. If not, Star Wars.

Yes composers take souls and convert them into digital information. Also if what you are referring to is what I think it wouldn't work on Halo species anyway the force doesn't work directly on extra galactic life.

How is that any but cherry picking? The force has been SHOWN not work on life from outside the Galaxy. the composer a technology based organic DNA decrypter into digital information is science based basically turning DNA into binary information there's nothing magical about it.
