In the trailer for halo wars 2, the brute said to kill all the demons. I thought the phrase demon was given to master chief because he destroyed the sacred ring. Why then was red team referred to as demons?

Demon is a general term for Spartans. Thel refers to Jai-006 as a "demon" in The Cole Protocol, decades before he ever meets the Master Chief.
