He is just one of six hive gods I believe maybe 5 and I think he is not even the most powerful out of those five or six but really oryx and the other pantheon of hive gods are not really hive gods but just super powerful beings who do not die of old age and can be killed in some way as we will see in the taken king.

We actually don't know if we kill oryx in TTK, jut that we fight him...

Bungie decided to kill off oryx before destiny 2 and remember oryx is not immortal he is like a jelly fish he can live for ever but can be killed and remember that there are other hive gods which we have to see so killing him off is basically going to happen
