Okay so in that quote you recognize the dilemma.
Bungie can't keep the old weapons because they're poorly designed. But leaving them behind devalues your time as a player.
Bungie is doing the right thing imho for making the tough decision and removing the "mistakes" from the equation. Even if one of those mistakes was your favorite.

They can only get so many chances before everyone's out though, yaknow?

This forum is a very small portion of the community, so even though lots of people here are whining u wont notice a difference in game

That's true, out of my 10 or so main friends only I use the forums. If there's anything I know about math, that's about 10 percent

Destiny is a super young game, people just have a lot less patience with bungie vs other games due to the disappointing initial release. Really Bungie's practices aren't particularly bad.

Edited by RennWorks: 8/25/2015 6:52:08 AMbasically, what he's trying to say, is that the overpowered problem is easily solved through buffs, nerfs, and overall weapon tweaks. Leaving old weapons behind is simply a lazy solution that harms the chances of lots of players sticking with the franchise

Some weapons are fundamentally broken. You can't balance them without completely changing how they function. And at that point it's just the name and model of the weapon that's carrying over.

Even if thorn wasn't a two shot or would still be used because it prevents health regen

completely changing the few fundamentally broken to allow the majority of the fundamentally balanced weapons to carry over is fine by me I for example just want my adept scholar to carry over or my queenbreakers bow or my now tweaked/nerfed for pvp thorn ( I don't use it in pvp at all unless it's trials, I just really like its thorn burn in pve. And now that it's getting stacking it would be a beast for taking out ads if it was getting carried over ) or my vision of confluence or my doctor nope or my mida multi tool or my hard light nerfing the overpowered minority, be it to oblivion or not, is a sacrifice I'm willing to take if my currently non overpowered and currently overpowered weapons stay relevant in game ( and btw, there really isn't a single weapon that would become fundamentally useless with nerfs. They'd simply become more situational rather than king of all trades )
