Yeah the whole "must have ghorn" bullshit was ridiculous, I rarely even used mine on Crota and beat him easily every week while grabbing people without it to fill the two empty spots in my fireteam each week. I'm kind of glad it's not coming to year two, all I use it for these days is strikes and bounties to get things done quicker, and it will still be great for that in year two, but not op for new bosses.
