What made us not be abandoned by the traveler? Unlike the fallen, why were we the ones to actually fight against the darkness?

After running for so long, and seeing so many of her children perish to the Darkness, the Traveler became tired. She decided to stand and fight. She gave us a very heightened Golden Age in the hopes that when the Darkness came, we could protect her and, with her help, defeat the Darkness
