I think the better answer would be for Bungie to design encounters that relied upon more than bullet sponges. Different weapons should be useful in different situations, for the life of the game. A weapon I got on day one of Destiny should be just as effective in its role as a weapon I get just before Destiny 2 releases. Now, if there is never going to be a Destiny 2, and all we ever get is expansions to Destiny, then we would have a situation similar to classic MMOs. Though Bungie did state in the pre-launch hype that they enter people to be able to carry over the gear and weapons they love through the 10 year cycle of Destiny. That being the case, it is a legitimate complaint that Bungie is not providing the product they advertised.

You can still use your older gear just like in any loot based game. All they have done is make gear of a higher level. That doesn't make it any less useful than it is now, they just didn't make it more useful.
