That depends on how much end game viable gear they make really. If they make one set of gear that is the best in the game for hunters then every hunter in the game is going to chase that set. But if they make four viable sets to piece from then there may be variation. The light system and level system have split so you can constantly see progress (by gaining experience) but the light system still matters. Your attack values and defense values across all of your gear get averaged out, and this number is what's used to determine your defense and attack rating. This number will also be checked before entering certain activities. For example (and these are just made up numbers) instead of requiring level 32 to do the nightfall there is the possibility that you are required to have 300 light to do the nightfall. We still aren't exactly sure how these light checks will work, or if there will still be level checks as well, but they did say that some activities will check your light values to make sure the activity is doable.

So far to me it seems more confusing. So will light still be binded to armour or will we need to collect/earn light? What is the point of having an experience level?Does it actually effect anything apart from showing how much experience you have earned? If so, why bother capping it at 40 then?

I'm sure level will have some sort of influence on overall attack/defense. This is just what we have gleaned so far off what has been released. Hopefully after the stream today things will be much more clear. What we do know: -Light will be attached to armor, weapons, your ghost, and probably your artifact (which we still don't know what those are at this point). -The displayed light number will be an average of all of your gears light (or attack and defense. This is still kind of unclear but we know it's an average of all your gear) -The light number will have SOME INFLUENCE over your attack and defense (higher light number theoretically better attack/defense). What we don't know -Will light be the only determinant of attack and defense values? Or will leveling play into these values as well? -How many sets of max light gear will there be? -What will the penalties be for using non-max light gear? (Can I use old raid weapons if all other gear is max-light and still to damage/stay alive?)

In my opinion: -Experience should contribute to Armour, Regeneration & Agility -Gear should contribute to Defence. -Weapons should contribute to Attack. -Motes of Light should contribute to Light Level -Light Level should contribute to Guardian Power e.g. Melee, Grenade, Super
