I'd agree with you if we went in eyes wide open knowing full well what was going on, but that's not been the case on this issue. When Bungie flip flops on a deal breaking mechanic (gear ascension), that isn't our fault.
The dark below was a low point for many of us, it made me personally stop grinding gear, legendary or exotic, ditch a load of what was then useless stuff, and only keep the necessities.
Then HoW dropped and they fixed that whole retarded system, all of a sudden I'm thinking 'bastards, I ditched X Y Z for nothing', but I'm also relieved they sorted their mistake, & since they made this change that's them figured out how to keep gear grinders happy so the effort is going to be worthwhile from here on out.
Now TTK has announced it's flipping back to no ascension, and all of the grind I put in collecting gear was for nothing, it's all getting left behind AGAIN. TBH if HoW never added etheric light I'd have moved on & forgotten about raid gear, but that's not what they did.
People like us choose to keep playing because of all the good things, just because of this very messed up item, doesn't mean the rest of the game has no value or potential. This is verging on a deal breaker for me going forward, certainly in terms of play time as the new raid basically has no long term value. It'll get left behind along with it's gear at the next DLC.
For those who like collecting interesting or rare gear from end game content, exotics are the only reason to grind. I've also no idea why those are being carried forward but raid gear isn't.
The most depressing thing is that TTK seems to be improving on every single aspect of the game, except this one, and it's a biggie.
I agree with you on your last statement, completely.
