What am I supposed to do? (Looking for Bungie's Guidance)

What am I supposed to do with a childhood tragedy? (Close my eyes forever) I'm sorry I couldn't help myself, but in all serious now, I'm confused on what I should be doing on Destiny now. In several of the interviews on The Taken King Expansion (or new game), it is clearly announced that year 1 legendary weapons will not be ascended. This guides me to believe that all legendary weapons now will be worthless later. If that truly is the case, then what is the point in doing Trials of Osiris? What would be the point of doing the raids now? If all legendary weapons are only good for starting the new campaign or for weapon sacrifices then why would I do Trials of Osiris to get only vanity and weapons that both won't last more than 31 days of usefulness? Even if Trials of Osiris (Which is really hardcore on last gen) and raid gear gives bonus gain when they are sacrificed or even better yet, if the elemental effect was transferred over, would it be worth it? Please help me out, tell me what I should do to prepare and or whether or not I should be worried about this. I would appreciate the guidance very much so. Also I would appreciate if you guardians wouldn't mind bumping my post to assist in a Bungie reply. Thank you for your time, - KnifeMaster
