The Milky Way on its own is really, [i]really[/i] -blam!-ing big. It'd take two hundred years to traverse it, end to end, at light speed. Obviously you wouldn't go that route, but still, it's a long way, wherever it is you might want to go starting from Sol. The space between two galaxies? Forget about it. We're better off waiting for Andromeda to pass through us.
I don't know, this is cool news. But space travel from where we are right now just seems so impractical.
