Fact, look it up decimate ˈdɛsɪmeɪt/ verb 1. kill, destroy, or remove a large proportion of. "the inhabitants of the country had been decimated" 2. historical kill one in every ten of (a group of people, originally a mutinous Roman legion) as a punishment for the whole group. "the man who is to determine whether it be necessary to decimate a large body of mutineers" Know the facts and you'll look less idiotic. 👍

You are a moron, how do you still deny the facts when proof is placed directly infront of you......maybe this Oxford definition is enough for you, you are wrong dude get over it. decimate See definition in Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary Line breaks: deci|mate Pronunciation: /ˈdɛsɪmeɪt/  Definition of decimate in English: verb [WITH OBJECT] 1Kill, destroy, or remove a large proportion of:the inhabitants of the country had been decimated MORE EXAMPLE SENTENCES 1.1Drastically reduce the strength oreffectiveness of (something):public transport has been decimated MORE EXAMPLE SENTENCES 2historical Kill one in every ten of (a group of people, originally a mutinous Romanlegion) as a punishment for the whole group:the man who is to determine whether it be necessary to decimate a large body of mutineers MORE EXAMPLE SENTENCES Usage Historically, the meaning of the worddecimate is ‘kill one in every ten of (a group of people)’. This sense has been more or lesstotally superseded by the later, more general sense ‘kill, destroy, or remove a large proportion of’, as in the virus hasdecimated the population. Sometraditionalists argue that this is incorrect, but it is clear that it is now part of standard English.

I did, smart people know the facts before correcting others. You should try that in the future dumbarse. If you had used any other old English in this conversation I might say hey you're a traditionalist but you have shown that you speak modern standard English, and arguing has just proven you to be a petulant child that can't admit you're wrong.

No you're wrong, not about the historical meaning of the word, you're wrong about saying I used it incorrectly. Oh and that argument you just used was terrible, look up the word "synonym" many different words can have the same exact meaning, but if you where a scholar of the English language like you pretend to be you'd already know that.

Deci = a factor of ten, at least use the right derivation. What you don't get is that the meaning of words sometimes change over time, how much proof do you need placed infront of you before you understand the facts. Like seriously your total inability to understand this very simple premise makes you seem to be a "yokel" as you put it, seriously how do you not get this? Were you dropped as a child or were you spiked into the ground like a football after a game winning touchdown? Seriously are you gonna start arguing that December is still the tenth month of the year just because it starts with decem?

I used it perfectly correctly and proved it multiple times, not my fault that you're too childish to accept that.
