• Since when did RPGs start having yearly resets on content...? You're acting like this is normal, but there's literally no precedent to compare to, because Destiny is the first of its kind. And it's a sucky design trait, regardless. :P

  • Lmao. It's a expansion. I don't like losing alot of stuff and they shouldn't be taking stuff away its just cheating us out of our time and money. But the game has to move forward as long ad they give us equal amounts of stuff we are losing plus millions of dollars worth of stuff we don't already have we should be fine.

  • It's DLC. This isn't an MMO, so the term "expansion," doesn't mean the same thing that it does in something like WoW. Destiny isn't going to be a single game that lasts 10 years, with yearly expansions that act in lieu of sequels. There will be a 'Destiny 2,' and almost certainly 'Destiny 3.' Fallout 3 had DLC that could be classified as "expansions," but they didn't remove anything; they added new areas, and new gear, but they didn't negatively affect the ability to use old gear effectively. Destiny is more than capable of doing the same, but Bungie's being stubborn and controlling about it.

  • It also isn't an RPG.

  • To be fair, it does have a decent amount of RPG-type elements, WAY more than it has MMO elements. Leveling system, experience bars, classes, subclasses, items and materials, NPC vendors, etc.. Definitely still an FPS first and foremost, but it still has influences from other styles of games. :P

Oh, I completely acknowledge that. But there's a big difference between saying, "Destiny is an RPG game" and saying "Destiny is a shared-world first person shooter/action game with elements of role playing games and loot-driven activities." The difference is, if you removed all of the RPG elements from Destiny, it would still be Destiny. More to the point here, the weapons and gear are way more than math delivery systems, as you would see in a typical RPG game (and for which ChefJake1, and many others who also are wrong, is arguing). The weapons and gear carry much of the FPS and action game experience, and in any FPS game, the cardinal development rule is "Don't touch my favorite gun." Bungie is breaking that rule after they said they learned from their mistakes and pledged not to do it again. All of this means that the "this is typical for an RPG game" arguments are not only invalid but also irrelevant.
