I agree with your overall point, including some of the specifics.
But to play devil's advocate, Destiny has not reduced the amount of weapons with every expansion. VOG weapons were still relevant for CE and as we know, HoW has an upgrade path using etheric light. In fact, the opposite is true. Destiny has added many more weapons over the course of year one. CE and HoW actually added many new weapons which is one major reason why vault space is so problematic. The only weapons removed were purple vendor weapons which were replaced by similar class weapons.
However, to further support your argument, it's worth mentioning that both the taken king and weapons 2.0 are counterproductive to diving into the current grind.
If even my raid purples are going to lose value, why grind strikes, nightfalls, raids and POE? On the PvP side, a crappy PvPer such as me is virtually obligated to use thorn or TLW in trials....then again, why bother with the lighthouse? Is a summoner adept going to wreck in pve after sept 15th? Nope...can't upgrade it.
Basically, I'm feeling like the time investment for any decent non-exotic is completely worthless, given that I only have one month to feel good about my reward. Not sure what a good solution might be, but I'm really not appreciating the way this transition is being handled.

In that way, neither of the DLCs have added weapons to the game; they replaced weapons. Also- Vanilla gear was a passable option for TDB content, but the lvl32/331 gear was clearly superior. And, if they hadn't added ascension to HoW, 300 weapons would be completely ineffective next to 365 weapons. Similarly, Year 1 gear might be useable during TTK's endgame activities, but they'll be wholly ineffective 3 months later in the next DLC. I.E., capping gear at 365 is essentially giving it dedicated expiration date.

That's not true. Every expansion added weapons. The only weapons 'removed' were vanguard, crucible and faction weapons. In all of these cases, they were replaced with new weapons. On top of that, Crota's End added 9 new raid weapons, plus exotic weapons plus murmur. House of wolves took it even further and added queens weapons , trials weapons and house of wolves weapons and 3 more exotic weapons. The weapons table is almost twice as big now from when vanilla Destiny was released. Not trying to be snarky here, just calling a spade a spade
The only weapons 'removed' were vanguard, crucible and faction weapons. In all of these cases, they were replaced with new weapons.
...That's 75%+ of the weapons for both Vanilla and TDB that have been removed, dude. You're literally proving my point for me, haha. HoW did add ToO and PoE gear, which purely added content with out replacing anything, this is true; however, it still removed full sets of Weapons and Armor from NM, DO, FWC, Vanguard, Crucible, and Iron Banner. Yes, there are technically more weapons in the game right now than there were at launch; but there should easily be TWICE as much gear in the game if Bungie didn't remove older gear. Do you see what I'm saying? :P
