Actually buying stuff is earning it. Finding a 20 dollar bill isn't earning money.

Well~ it depends on how you found it, If you were walking up and down that street for a month hoping to find a bill until you actually find it, I definitely think that bill was earned. But if you didn't even try and it just [i]randomly[/i] (keyword is randomly here) then no you most definitely did not earn it.
