You can't earn a random drop. You earn Xur weapons more than drops because you earn the coins from Weekly.

Can't answer my question it seems. Well let me tell you something, kid. I've gotten tons and tons and tons of Exotics from Nightfalls, Raids, Strikes, even a few from purple engrams. I've even bought Xur items. Because in the end, it doesn't matter how you got it because they all act the same and you're just happy to have gotten it. Then move on to continue playing. Nightfall, sitting or fighting, earned Exotic. Weekly, sitting or fighting, earned coins for Exotic. Exotic is Exotic. Shut up and play.
