Without linking posts and and diving deep into it: I and many others find Halo 3's story to be a mess because of its shallow and logically flawed plot that essentially starts half way through the game. The returning characters from Halo 2 (excluding Hood) all became parodies of themselves, where they were detrimental to their own causes and often said stupid, out-of-character lines.
