I guess my biggest worry is that not enabling year 1 legendary progression any further could be a symptom of a lack of creativity on the development side... Namely, that instead of creating guns with more exciting perks that positively impact gameplay, it would be very easy for the developers to merely recreate preexisting guns with higher damage values that practically would require their usage for the endgame experience (e.g. +1 level raids / POE and Iron Banner / Crucible).
We saw a little bit of this with House of Wolves, where instead of using any of the new HOW guns, most people upgraded old raid gear instead - mostly due to the fact that most of the HOW guns had perks specific to Fallen (e.g. the anti-shank rocket launchers).
I just worry that, for example, I'll dismantle my Fatebringer, only to have the expansion have me grind out for a new gun that's effectively just a new Fatebringer with a different name. I think it's far more challenging - but rewarding - if the game incentivized us to use new guns naturally by making them inherently worth using via new perks and gun types.
Also, somewhat unrelated, I thought it was cool how they were rotating drops out with each DLC release. Being a November starter, I played with a guy last week that had ascended a complete set of matching Hunter armor from vanilla Destiny that I had never seen before and don't have access to anymore. Anyway, I thought that was kind of a cool reward for him being able to show off that he was a day 1 guy and it'll be a shame that all those armor pieces and guns will essentially be thrown away and we'll only be left with that emblem to show that we were survivors of the year one growing pains.
