Personally I have been conditioned by two and a half years of WoW to move on from my old gear. I remember having a full set of legendary gear in the Lich King only to replace it with greens as soon as Cataclysm came out and no it didn't bother me. However, it didn't bother me because the new gear was BETTER and represented a significant advancement in my characters strength. The same can be said for some of the weapons I have in destiny. I went from The Chance, to The Fulcrum to Timur's Lash on my hunter because my ganeplay, weapon style and perk preference evolved and were answered which allowed me to progress as a player and as a guardian. What will make or break TTK for me is if I get the same feeling of making progress by replacing armour and weapons that I have had in the past. I know I will mourn the passing of my Zombie Apocalypse, LDR, Timur's, Gheleon's and my pile of other shotguns, snipers and rocket launchers that I love. However if I lose them in favour of guns that have the same stats or even better, than I think TTK will be a success.

Great point, most games with RPG mechanics are like this the new gear outclasses the old, I don't mind leaving behind old legendaries. However, how often did WoW introduce more powerful gear? Once a year? Sometimes every other year? Continuing to move the goalposts every 3-4 months is getting tiring. IMO: Make new weapons and gear viable for all of year 2. Make sure any new gear that comes out with the year 2 DLC's are compelling to get because they are unique, fun and powerful in their own right. End the Grind...or at lease significantly reduce it.
