Sorry you feel that way, but understand that this is exactly how games like this function.
It's a time sink, if you don't like that business model and method of development, then sadly this game isn't for you.
Games like this need to continually grow and evolve, this typically means new goals for players to strive for.
Usually that means new bosses to fight, new gear to attain. Without that, MMO' such as Destiny are destined to fail OR they implement a cash shop like Guild Wars 2 did and League of Legends did and make EVERYTHING cosmetic.
Some people like the latter business model, some people hate it.
At any rate, I'll be keeping my pre-order, I just hope you find a game that fits your tastes.

They could still let us use the old stuff without focing anything. They dont need to manipulate everything. Ppl will still want to use the new gear. But excuseing the game as a time sink and shrugging it off doesnt really cover it. They really dont need to go this route or there is literally no reason to level up half of the gear we get. In that case we can just only put time into half of the gear since it would no longer be worth the time of investment.

I see your views, however I respectfully disagree. The very nature of the game relies on you getting gear, spending time and money in game. If you're comfortable with your old gear, and it is just as effective if not more than the new armor, then what incentive do you have to get the new weapons/armor other than for collecting purposes? People don't like change, and don't get me wrong, I'd love to keep my Fatebringer and blow up hive left, right, front and center all day. However, at the end of the day, from a business and development perspective, I do not think making our old legendaries ascendable would be a wise choice for the game. Exotics? That's a little different IMO. I would like to see them incorporate the ascending of exotics into the actual story of the new xpack. Make it as difficult as it was to obtain thorn, or the other exotic bounties. This will help keep the content meaningful and rewarding for those particular weapons. OR make it so that they are reforged into a continuing story line that allows you to ascend it into a new form, with entirely different perks sets or what have you.

I completely agree with you all the way. What im saying is that ppl will move away from oldder gear naturally. But if for whatever reason i still want to hold in to some gear like old original raid gear... I should be able to and it wont harm amyone ir anything. Ive already bought the regular destiny game plus the dlc and now pre-ordered the 80 dollar digital edition. I pretty much have every gun in the game and multiple setups of them. Not goimg to keep all of it and i still have room in my vault because i always narrow down amd don't hoard... But im just saying this who deal if progression will take care of itself. Let the players have the freedom to do with their gear what they want. They will always move forward but it would still be really cool to still have an ild favorite gun from years back whan you started the game. A lot of games cant say that amd thats where destiny is different amd im sure the hardcore fans would appreciate it.

What I'm gathering from what you're saying (please correct me if I'm wrong) but are you under the impression that they are getting rid of your old gear, like deleting it from your vault at some indeterminate time? If so, I do not believe that will be the case. Old Legionaries will still be available, it's just, after some time, they will no longer be a viable choice to use in combat. I hate this method of forcing players to move forward as well, but as a veteran MMO player (WoW, Guild Wars 2, Ragnarok Online, Elders Scrolls Online, Wild Star Online) it's a time proven concept, and as much as I don't like the idea of some of my most favorite weapons becoming obsolete, I have come to the conclusion that I can find new ones that I'll learn to cherish. Hell, I still have my Thunderfury legendary from Vanilla WoW, hits for nothing, but it's the nostalgia that is invoked when using it that made me keep it through out my WoW career.

I hear ya. Its the same for most of us. I would like to bring my vanquisher with me and there is really nk reason that shouldnt be possible. I dont think they are going to delete guns or armor but if this is the pattern we are headed for i will now take a more minimalistic route when building my armory amd put less time into the game if all im going to do is basically be forced to delete and replace everything that isnt exotic. I really only want to keep iron banner amd raid weapons amd a few other purple guns and raid armors. Thats it. And why would they not want us to be able to keep those armor sets from raids past. Its tells a story as bungie used to say. Its just all very hypocritical because they struggle to balance everything then nerf everything and now they want to retroactively nerf or wipe out everything we worked for without giving us options. Again this makes the player exoerience mire cookie cutter amd generic in aome respects because it goes against a lot of what bungie was preaching back when they first presented the game at e3 before it came out. I get the flow of some mmo type games but bungie was teying to distance themselves from that label when desriny came out. I like that the game evolves but it just needs more stability in its economy and the feeling of investment that the player puts in.

Planet Destiny just posted this, regarding an interesting remark from Cozmo, the new community rep. Jump to 5:56 in the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KptNdERnYUg

Edited by Artimise Flare: 8/4/2015 11:24:06 PMI get you there, I honestly wouldn't mind it if the old gear tied into the new gear. Like you get to keep it, but in order to advance, you had to get materials from the new raid to upgrade it. You can then have the option to keep the old aesthetic, but get the new stats ya know? OR They do what Guild wars and WoW has done, allow you to get the new gear, but use the skins from your old armor. Best of both worlds I think. Since not everyone likes the looks of the new weapons and armor ya know.

Destiny is not an MMO game!!
-
Yes, it is. To some extent Weekly events that grant exceptional gear. Check. Instances/dungeons (strikes) Check Group content centered around strong cooperation and communication among fire teams (raids). Check Requirement to grind for ever improving gear. Check. Destiny is VERY MMO like, it's just a different type of MMO, with shooter elements. So like it or not, it is indeed an MMO.

You know what bud. Thanks. That was a good read and you weren't trying to bring me down for being upset about a game I enjoy. I now have a better understanding of how these games work and what the motive is. I'm a loot whore and came from the Borderlands series where it was fun getting all this new loot and just enjoying the game. It's just gutting to feel like you've spent all this time for nothing. Thanks again. I have metal gear and fallout coming soon. I hope the game and its expansions continue to entertain you buddy.

Anytime man, I know the feeling, it sucks having you favorite guns grow obsolete. I've just played so many MMO games that I've just become used to the whole idea behind it. For me, loot is of course a major part of me grinding my way to the top, but it's also the journey along the way that entertains me. The experience that I get from defeating that difficult boss, or finally obtaining that elusive gun. Finding new favorites and then conversing about old ones with fellow vets. Ultimately, its sharing that experience with a group of people that I enjoy the most, and while this isn't something everyone shares with me, it's what keeps me coming back to Destiny. Personally, I don't think you spent all that time for nothing, you have the memories and excitement of getting those items, the feeling of fulfillment of getting that piece of gear you always wanted, and knowing you worked hard to get it. If anything, you've gained valuable and precious memories, those memories will never leave you (I hope). Best of luck to you bud, may you succeed in whatever you venture out to accomplish!
