Well, considering this game is based off grinding, why would Bungie make it so players didn't have to spend time grinding weapons and gear? I mean, every thing they've ever done for this game is meant to make people spend more time playing. Who would chase new gear if they could always just ascend their gear.

I don't disagree with what you are saying but to make the assumption gear will not be ascendable for year two is premature

What the recent history in which they allowed the ascension of year one gear? Exotics will be ascendable, that much is a concrete certainty and I honestly can't see them making vault of glass and crota even more irrelevant than they are currently because at the end of the day, why would anyone want to run those raid if the gear was utterly pointless? The evidence is that the new level cap is going to be 50, it will at the very least be 10 levels above where we are now so the weapons will be increasing by a similar level which would make any weapons stuck at current levels utterly useless

Bungie won't care. Hasn't everyone figured that out yet? What does Bungie want? More hours played. How do they get it? By making people chase new gear. This is a loot based game. If there were no reason to chase loot, what would there be?

90% of my gear is ascended. Didn't take long. Either way, I don't think Bungie will be allowing much gear to ascend. They simply don't care what customers want, only on implementation of their vision to make moolah

This ^^ Because at the end of the day once you have paid for the game, they make no more money from you until the next DLC. They don't make money based on how long you play

Boom. You nailed it [i]exactly[/i]. To keep players using new content. DeeJ said it himself when pressed about Vault Space. He said "there are moments where we ask you to make tough decisions.” Hmmm. Doesn't sound too promising. What " tough decisions " is he talking about that coincides with Vault Space?

I agree that it looks slim that year one will be up to par attack wise with year two but when bungie announced the deletion of our beta characters they said would stick with us over the next 10 years. Not sure if it includes weapons/gear but just saying.

I think it's just the characters. There's no way they keep bumping weapons. No one would play if they could take Suros Regime til the end....

Maybe, but I doubt they carry exotics all the way for 10 years. Vaults wouldn't even begin to hold all that gear.
