Dear Dames of Destiny,
While I do not normally watch the Destiny Bungie Bounty streams, it recently came to my attention through the My name is Byf video (which I have included in this post for anyone who happens to be curious), that your part in the Bungie Bounty was met with almost constant sexist and discriminatory remarks. Normally, I don't make threads of my own, only reserving that sort of thing for what I consider important, and this is the third thread I've made on the Bungie forums, period.
As such, I feel a few things need to be said.
First, to the Destiny Community:
It comes as no surprise to me that there is still a hateful attitude towards women in gaming, but what did come as a shock was the fact that people were willing to show that hate and discrimination so publicly, without any apparent shame for it. I realize that the Internet and Online Gaming, in and of themselves, promote anonymity, and in turn that gives people the power to say whatever it is they wish. That power is often coupled with complete irresponsibility and total unaccountability.
That is no excuse, and is unacceptable.
The fact that I have to type this in the first place disappoints and sickens me, but I suppose it has to be reiterated: In a video game, the gender of the player does not matter. It should never matter. Neither should race or place of birth. Discrimination as a whole is wrong, and should never be promoted. As such, anyone who sees what happened to the Dames of Destiny, and approves? You are not a part of my Destiny Community, and I want nothing to do with you. If I seem like I'm parroting Byf's video and the points he happens to be making, it's simply because the point deserves to be hammered home.
Second, to the Dames of Destiny themselves:
For those of you who read this, and I sincerely hope you do, I want to say on behalf of my part of the Destiny Community that I am truly sorry that you had to see, experience, and have to endure that kind of utter bullshit. And I am sorry that over the past decade, it hasn't seemed to have gotten noticeably better.
I hope that from this point forward, you have to deal with less and less discriminating assholes while you play online, regardless of whether or not it happens to be Destiny. And I hope that, despite everything that happened during the Bungie Bounty stream, it does not deter you from staying strong as a part of this community.
Sincerely,
Texas Joker 52, esq.

It's the internet where I can find anything ranging from a way to donate to breast cancer research to adult film sites that exploit and degrade women on a regular basis. If you expect everyone on the internet to behave righteously then your fooling yourself. When you put yourself out there expect stones to be thrown, especially in a realm of free expression.
-
Why should you feel sorry for them? It wasn't your fault.
-
Agreed. Wholeheartedly. I am ashamed of many of my fellow guardians, and only hope that all male gamers are not associated with these disgusting closed minded people.
-
Dont put the puss on a pedestal man. Even the women reading this are probably offended. If they can push a bowling ball ball out of there then they can handle a little razzing.

Edited by BioOfBlood: 7/31/2015 2:47:56 AMNot trying to sound mean or like I don't feel sorry but post like this only gets worse for them. Because it keeps the guy's who did this in powered.. And posting a YouTube like throws more insalt for the victim is thus case the team who put with the abuse of some under age kid who want to be noticed.
-
This is the troll era. We all love the internet, but everything comes with a price. touka koukan mother *uckers!
-
Bump for great justice!
-
Cool that you apologized but this is an online game, Bungie can't control what people say to each other and yes there are immature assholes out there but its not like thats unexpected, like I said this game is online so people should know what to expect.
-
Can someone tell me if the OP is involved with what happened, or is he hit some random white knight? I doubt the women care about what happened, aside from it being disappointing that the event ended early (didn't it?) Acting like they might've felt out of place in the community after what happened is insulting.
-
Thick skin helps in online gaming. If anyone gets offended by random harassment from the internet stay away from said internet no one is safe.
hurtfeelyoma poor you
-
Agreed. This is the problem though. The internet is full or cowardice assholes who spout verbal Diahrea fully aware of the lack of consequence. Giving them a target and limiting your own anonymity only furthers the issue. If they don't have something personal on you than its just your gaming profile. For instance you have no idea if I am male, female, black, white, hispanic, American, or Chinese. I'm just a gamer. When you are no longer anonymous it gives shitheads power. But honestly if you wear your badges proudly rest assured that these are only cowards on the internet.
-
what happened was unacceptable, absolutely unacceptable. it disgusts me that anyone would choose to act like that and think it's okay. I feel genuine sorrow that the Dames, and even Cozmo and Deej, were forced to suffer through this. I hope those involved in this harassment are properly dealt with.
-
The dames of destiny didn't deserve any of that harassment, nobody does, faith in humanity is very low today
-
Their sexist stance doesn't help. I DO NOT excuse the sexist behavior they faced but their stance on being anti-male is going to generate backlash. The only true path to community is unification.
-
Don't forget that all the ignorance and immaturity that you saw obviously came from kids. They know no better. For real though, if you're a grown ass man, and you have problems with females playing videos games. Get a life lol.
-
Bump Bump.bump.bump. Well said!
-
Yeah ^^^^ what he said

Thank you for typing this up. My fiance is in the dames, while obviously not part of the stream or chat she and I were a bit shocked when we learned of the events that led to the stream being shut down. It is truly disgusting what happened during that time. There seems to be misinterpretation of byf's comment, notably where he quotes the "suck my ball" part. People seem to believe that the comment was directed at solely at deej. However this isn't the case, the person who made the comment refers to it as his thought about the bounty. Indicating he had some sort of issue with the dames and not solely deej.
-
Great comments!

Taking the actual problem to one side, isn't Twitch just a haven for abuse? How many of those viewers were Destiny players. You can create a twitch account without actually owning a console. I believe Bungie streams in the future should be restricted to Bungie.net registered users only.

Edited by The Godsmith: 7/31/2015 12:33:10 AMThank god female gamers have a man like you to defend their honor. Can I polish your armor?
-
Am I the only one who feels we should do something to show support for them within the game?

I'm not apologizing for anyone. Those people that entered those ignorant words in the chat box during yesterdays bounty should be ignored. Last thing they need is a PSA shining more light in their direction. Don't even give them the time of day because they haven't matured enough to warrant yours or anybody else's attention. Also, if a member of the Dames is reading? Dust yourself off and move along, just play the game you love and don't pay no mind to anyone.
