For everyone demanding that Year 1 gear be used well into Year 2 you are insane....

The game has to move forward & I am okay with that

1105

I never want things to change

436

I will move on but I'm sad to see them go

2548

Do you people not understand how progress works? They are going to increase the level cap to 50 people. That means that you won't be able to keep your level 32-34 gear. Just like you didn't get to keep using the russian rifle you get in the beginning of the game forever and ever and had to move on to a new gun. You don't get to choose when you stop progressing or get to demand that nothing changes. People talk about gamer entitlement and for the most part I think its bullshit, but what I am seeing here is the definition of entitlement. You all want all the new content , but you don't wanna give up what you already have. You demand that you get to keep using the same stuff forever unless you find something better. Thats not how games works. Especially games that are expansion based. When the Reaper of Souls expansion came to Diablo 3 you didn't get to keep using your old gear. You had to move on to the new content. When WoW releases a new expansion you don't get to keep using your old gear. Whe CoD/Halo releases a new game you don't get to keep the gear you were already using in the previous installment. This is an ACTUAL expansion for Destiny. Not the hollow husks that we got like HoW and TDB yet even THEY forced us to move on to new raid gear and new weapons. But you think that TTK is somehow different? Despite the fact that it will supposedly contain more than double what HoW and TDB had combined? Exotics will of course be able to be upgraded, but if you think you should able to be using a Fatebringer (A Level 30 Weapon) and it still be JUST as good as it ever was at Level 50 then you people are out of your minds. I understand that some people are attached to their weapons and I also understand that some of you still haven't even GOTTEN the weapons in question yet so you don't wanna see that effort go to waste but this is how it has ALWAYS worked when it comes to expansions. Year 1 gear WILL be pushed to the background especially now that they are even releasing new gun makers. Do you really think they would go through all of this trouble and effort of creating all this new content, but still let everyone use and abuse the old stuff as well? EDIT: Just to be clear I am speaking about PvE exclusively. I know that in PvP you will obviously be able to use whatever you want. I am talking about PvE where numerical stats actually matter. EDIT 2: Also just to be clear I am not claiming they are gonna REMOVE the old guns. I am simply saying that by increasing the level cap they will be forcing you to REPLACE the old guns.

Bungie Meeting: We must encourage everyone to try different loadouts by nerfing the most popular weapons. Okay, done. What now? I know! Let's force everyone into using just the handful of new weapons in TTK, so we can all be different, together! Good hustle, team. Cake! On a serious note, whichever way they go, they need to stick with it and stay consistent. Once it leaves the sandbox, you don't get to change your mind without enraging the player base. Players have hundreds or thousands of hours invested, and invalidating their efforts will only make them want to spend their time elsewhere.
Whe CoD/Halo releases a new game you don't get to keep the gear you were already using in the previous installment.
That is probably the worst analogy I have ever seen on the forums. Call of Duty and Halo entries are new games entirely where nothing you obtained really carried over in the first place, while the other is an actual expansion where everything you obtained in the game itself is still with you. I'm not against moving on, but it's a bad comparison.

      • I'm fine with moving on but look at the gear ( my main is hunter) going from crota to Poe gear was hard because Poe gear looks like shit. Who ever ok'd the final draft of the hunter boots needs to be fired. Maybe they should implement a transmog system similar to wow...

        • With all possible respect, I've seen the comparison between weapon obsolescence is Destiny and in other games like WoW or Diablo a couple of times now, and its not entirely valid. Whereas in those other games the weapon (for the most part) is providing damage output and stat bonuses, in the Destiny the behavior perks on your weapons are your most used "skills". Imagine if your Rogue could only use Fan of Knives or your Warrior could only Sunder Armor while they had a specific weapon equipped. Then imagine that with the next expansion you were forced to give up those skills in favor of inferior ones only because of the damage stats on the weapon. The communities surrounding those games would no doubt be having this very same debate. The solution is to let us "learn" perks like Arc Damage and Firefly, and then let us either equip them or build them into our new weapons. Then players would feel like they were actually progressing when they replaced Fatebringer with that new Hand Cannon, and the controversy would evaporate.

          • I think the old guns will retain a system like etheric light, but I think the newer weapons will be more useful for the new content. In either case it'd be nice if they'd at least allow for cosmetic overwrite on legendaries so the new stuff can be made to look like the older gear if you like the way it looks. I don't want to go back to everyone wearing the current raid gear again.

          • I have no problem with replacing weapons if they actually make the new weapons good. Fatebringer, VoC, Found Verdict, The Devil You Know, Shadow Price, eat are all OG legendaries that are better than anything they've made since. That's pretty sad....

            • Yeah, as long as we can keep our exotics I'm cool with it. IB gear is always in rotation and so will Trials, I assume. I wonder if they'll update the PoE gear too.

              • While I'll miss some of the guns - cause the vanilla weapons out shine most others - it will be nice to have something to look forward to again. At this point I'm an exotic shard farmer.

So what, are they going to make new guns for crotas end and VoG? How does that work? That being said, maybe raid gear will actually carry over automatically.

Your poll is bias and stupid. Another person comparing this shit game with as much content as a 3$ indie game to games like wow and diablo which have SHIT TONS of content. The Russian weapon was a starter gun. So you're okay with a game that has a tiny bit of content having you repeat the exact same thing hundreds of times to collect gear to only have it all stripped away at the end of every year? What a load of horse shit. I've grinded the same manatinous bullshit tasks to seemingly no end to loot whore,SOME THING THIS GAME WAS SOLD AS. Collect loot to become legend or some bullshit like that, not grind doing the same thing for it to get it taken away at the end of the year making you either quit or grind all over again to get it all stripped away again and again at the end of the year. I want to keep what I worked a year to get and if they make getting loot completely -blam!-ing pointless then I'm out. Have a problem with others keeping things and not using the new gear? All they have to do is make more interesting gear. There you go. Problem solved. Forcing us to switch weapons though? Terrible -blam!-ing idea. This game is not wow. This game is not diablo. This game is not some immersive massive exploration game like those are so stop -blam!-ing comparing destiny to something completely different. You might as well be comparing Zelda to call of duty. Your comparing of games that aren't even remotely comparable makes it seem like you've never played a game other than destiny in your life. They should build on what they already have, not make the rest of the game pointless to play because they want people using the newest shit in the latest dlc.

                        • Honestly, i think that ascension was a stupid idea in the first place. I loved my weapons while I had them, and they were awesome, but I can't say I'm sad to see them go. We all need a change of power when it comes to top-tier weapons and armour.

                          • Yet for the avid player, a progression path for that old gear is an incentive to keep playing. Chances are, the new gear will have subpar perks compared to the old, even after the update. I like the idea of carrying my gear forward, and would like the option to do so. Thats why i like destiny so far, i can carry my played character from one expansion/game (if it holds true) to the next without starting from scratch

                            • Is it actual level or light level that will go to 50. If light then we will be able to use all guns. If actual level then we will only be able to use legendary's at level 50 so how will this all work. I'm confused on this level system.
