For everyone demanding that Year 1 gear be used well into Year 2 you are insane....

The game has to move forward & I am okay with that

1105

I never want things to change

436

I will move on but I'm sad to see them go

2548

Do you people not understand how progress works? They are going to increase the level cap to 50 people. That means that you won't be able to keep your level 32-34 gear. Just like you didn't get to keep using the russian rifle you get in the beginning of the game forever and ever and had to move on to a new gun. You don't get to choose when you stop progressing or get to demand that nothing changes. People talk about gamer entitlement and for the most part I think its bullshit, but what I am seeing here is the definition of entitlement. You all want all the new content , but you don't wanna give up what you already have. You demand that you get to keep using the same stuff forever unless you find something better. Thats not how games works. Especially games that are expansion based. When the Reaper of Souls expansion came to Diablo 3 you didn't get to keep using your old gear. You had to move on to the new content. When WoW releases a new expansion you don't get to keep using your old gear. Whe CoD/Halo releases a new game you don't get to keep the gear you were already using in the previous installment. This is an ACTUAL expansion for Destiny. Not the hollow husks that we got like HoW and TDB yet even THEY forced us to move on to new raid gear and new weapons. But you think that TTK is somehow different? Despite the fact that it will supposedly contain more than double what HoW and TDB had combined? Exotics will of course be able to be upgraded, but if you think you should able to be using a Fatebringer (A Level 30 Weapon) and it still be JUST as good as it ever was at Level 50 then you people are out of your minds. I understand that some people are attached to their weapons and I also understand that some of you still haven't even GOTTEN the weapons in question yet so you don't wanna see that effort go to waste but this is how it has ALWAYS worked when it comes to expansions. Year 1 gear WILL be pushed to the background especially now that they are even releasing new gun makers. Do you really think they would go through all of this trouble and effort of creating all this new content, but still let everyone use and abuse the old stuff as well? EDIT: Just to be clear I am speaking about PvE exclusively. I know that in PvP you will obviously be able to use whatever you want. I am talking about PvE where numerical stats actually matter. EDIT 2: Also just to be clear I am not claiming they are gonna REMOVE the old guns. I am simply saying that by increasing the level cap they will be forcing you to REPLACE the old guns.

  • I'd be fine with weapons advancing to the next generation with you if the community wasn't so toxic about what you wear.

  • I just hope I can still use weapons that I've come to love in crucible like my longbow or ldr and my devil you know and fulcrum. They are so amazing and using them in crucible from time to time will be awesome :)

  • I hate to see old weapons and gear pass on, but they can take hints from borderlands with the space. Borderlands pretty much has unlimited space, Destiny should try to do the same or up it like 100 more slots.

  • Year 1 gear should transition into year 2. Year 1 gear should not transition into year 3. Our variety is extremely slim in terms of our armories. Every DLC has transitioned out its previous season's weapons and armor, leaving us with very little to choose from in the grand scheme. The only addendum to this is if the new expansion adds so much more to the game, that we can filter out the year 1 gear and its horribly unbalanced stats. Variety is good. But if they can provide variety without having 4 goto weapons, I'm all in for the new.

  • But I did get to keep my gear and guns. I still use fatebringer, VoC, Predeths Revenge, etc and have level 34 VOG gear.

  • I never want to be forced to change. I want to be able to collect all of the trophies I have acquired since Day 1. There's a lot of great memories associated with them. If Bungie doesn't want to let us ascend stuff in TTK and in future expansions, so be it. I want to be able to use what I can while it's still viable, then vault it when it isn't. We should be able to have that choice. Maybe what Bungie could do is make a separate vault that acts as a trophy case for our old weapons. This way they wouldn't have to increase the size of the current vaults, which they claim they can't do.

  • I completely agree. What I don't agree with is the ongoing trend of weakening the weapons against enemies in PvE. Each DLC so far the weapons have gotten weaker and weaker. To artificially inflate difficulty, rather than creative engagements, it is constant stronger bullet sponges, weaker bullets.

    • Weapons, sure. Armor, no, we need a transmog or vanity slot type of thing to create individual guardians worth the time put into the game.

There's two reasons why it bothers me. 1. They wasted time programming an entire system, material, loot table, based on ascending your old gear. Now not only are they trashing this system they shouldn't have bothered with in the first place, but they are pissing on all the gullible idiots who thought they could wear vanilla legendaries and use fatebringer for a decade; after just pandering to them! 2. They haven't shown me anything to leave me with the confidence that they'll program any good gear in the future. With the lazy design and shït perks like shank burn, not to mention the nerfs and removal of some of the best perks- the future is pretty fücking bleak imho. But what do I care, I finally got the bones of eao that have been eluding me. Now I have everything and can stop playing this game until I hear some good news.

      • If bungie laid this out for the community at the beginning or much longer ago, nobody would care. Instead they throw this out less then 90 days out,and just a blink of an eye after House of Wolves. It's not poor game design it's poor marketing and community relations
just another opinion
I agree with what you're saying, but why are they letting us take gear that's already outclassed, and ascend it further? If it's going to immediately be worthless when the new weaps / armor get here, then why give us the etheric light? It's a complete waste then. Besides, take Fatebringer for instance. It's a raid weapon. Are they going to wipe out all the weapons from Atheon, and create brand new ones? If not, then the raid weapons are worthless, and why bother doing the raid? We do it now for the great gear. If that's out, might as well close the door to the Vault of Glass, and throw away the key. Here's my personal idea for gear, and the future of it: Leave the vault space we have as it is. Allow for all of the weapons/gear in the game to be ascended every year. Make the new year (Destiny Year), each anniversary on its release day in September. Whatever weapons/gear that you don't have ascended to the latest and greatest levels for that year, will be permanently left at whatever level they are at. This will force people to make hard decisions. With limited vault space, and lots of new weapons and gear, you'll have to decide if that older weapon or armor piece is REALLY worth it to you, to sacrifice that bit of vault space, instead of keeping newer gear. Each year as more and more weapons/gear come out, it'll make it harder to hang onto that Fatebringer, since it will be taking up a slot that newer gear would be filling but, that good old Fatebringer will still be up at the latest and greatest levels, if you so wish to keep ascending it each year. Years from now, it'll make this year 1 gear REALLY rare when someone has some, while at the same time making the year 1 gear still viable to use, all the while new weapons and gear keep coming out. Perhaps one day they'll bring out an awesome handgun, and you'll finally part with that year 1 Fatebringer, that you've had for so long.

Considering they haven't made anything good since launch exotics and VoG black hammer excluded yes, I want my good weapons. It seems like each expansions is an attempt to balance by not making anything special.

                • I agree, but at the same time it seems rather stupid to not only have a new way to upgrade weapons/armor, but a bunch of new weapons a few months before ttk. Pointless grinding for gear that will be useless is somewhat depressing, just a hamster wheel to keep people playing until ttk....

Gjallarhorn and Fatebringer should be 10 year weapons. They are iconic weapons in gaming history and Bungie should embrace that.

                    • Why dont just give us an option? We can either choose to upgrade our old weapons or grind for the new weapons? Give us a choice. If the new weapons n gears are better than current ones, i m sure most of us will delete the old ones n get the new ones.

                      • Here's what I say. Keep the Exotics and Raid gear upgradeable. I can part with the rest. As much as people farm for, say, Hopscotch Pilgrim, it isn't nearly as bad as the farming people do for raid gear. I still farm for Hunger and Word of Crota as well as the VOG shotgun. I think that exotics and Raid gear stays so old Raids don't go obsolete and exotics because exotics.
