Don't you think that there are certain aspects of life that do not change throughout the existence of that organism? I believe the comprehension of time passing is one of these aspects. How would the mind be able to understand if the laws of time were to suddenly change? Would it also change, or would it completely reject this idea for the old way in which time was understood?
