Since canada was still a colony of Britain at the time all the "official" credit goes to them. It was the Canadians who did it. We just weren't called Canadians at the time.

Very few (if any), British Army regulars, Marines and Navy personnel, were 'Canadian'. Most Canadians don't appreciate that the war was not, in larger measure, a North American conflict but rather a world war. Their militia service was in garrision and its not like the British Army at the time would rely on such troops for anything. Canada's identity; if it has one, has been forged from the propaganda that they are 'not' Americans. While politically and socially true, the same could be said of Californians. The common bonds, dignity and values are perhaps more similar than any other two peoples on earth. I pray that someday, Canadians can move past the lies and embrace that that truth.

This article is all about the Canadian militia and nothing else. The Canadian militia played key points in the war. 10,000 provincial soldiers were part of the British force and were responsible for a large part of the of the on land skirmishes. The article has nothing to say of the amount of soldiers born within the colonies. That fought against your failed invasion. I appreciate you trying to tell us about our heritage.

Its not heritage, it's propaganda and someone needs to set you all straight. God knows you can't rely on Vignettes from the CBC for your (properly) proud history. Having spent considerable time in Canada, the licence you all have to be anti-American is quite disturbing - and often based on BS. Funnily enough, the one thing our people share is the inability to be told were wrong or, that another valid position exists. Firstly, I appreciate you actually reading the article. If you study military history you would know that Britain didn't rely on Canadian militias much for the North American War or European wars. Not much more than garrision duty, actually. There were no Canadian regulars, per se, and you have to appreciate that Canada's population in 1810 was a majority French. Given the 'real' war was with France and France and the US were allied, Canadians, if we call them that, had suspect loyalties the British would never rely on. Secondly, there was no 'invasion'. Despite what you're told and where some battles took place, the war (the actual war by Congress and not state militias (aka yucks)), was to remove British presence, impressment and trade strangling. The US won on all counts. Canada won on all counts too, it became a nation (state) because of that war.
