I know this is probably obvious, but what happened to the brutes? Why weren't they in halo 4?

I ain't no admiral, could be wrong. But the covenant we faced in halo 1-3 was "disbanded". The prophets who were left went into hiding. There was an elite who managed to keep a group of all races together who worshipped the forerunners instead of just the journey. Or something like that. That's who you faced in halo 4.

They're still around. They weren't in Halo 4 because Jul's Covenant isn't exactly Brute-friendly.
