Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before.
I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems.
I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun.
Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself.
Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it.
Thanks again, guardians.

I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get.
Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions.
For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc.
If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over?
Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what?
Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft?
As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

Dude, xbone, no contest. You'd have to start Destiny all over on ps4, and you'll get backwards compatibility with the games you already have. And I'm a Sony boy, so no fanboy shit lol. It's the right answer for the you to stay on the dark side ;)

I like ps4 but stat on xbox so u can keep your acount.
-
stay xbox if you plan to continue to play Destiny, you keep your progress

Assuming you're not too attacked to your character, ps4. If you enjoy where you're at, xb1
-
You should get some gumption and compare the two yourself instead of querying a bunch of fanboys.
-
Ps4 for a bit better graphics or Xbox one if you want to save a few bucks. Otherwise they are completely the same. Or if there is an exclusive on one console or the other you really want.

-
Get whatever system your friends play. The two are more or less the same, other than the PS4 exclusives.
-
Get a ps4 if you want to play destiny otherwise I'd have to bias and say Xbox one
-
Have both Xbox one has a better build quality.
-
I say stick with the console u have (Xbox) I've always loved xbox and I just switched as well and I'm very happy with the xbone.
-
Steam machine!
-
Xbox one because u already have the 360 stay on the same line. Also: Bad ass controller that's getting better Backwards compatibility Halo 5 Better servers Gears of war Holo lens And loads more

Ok so here is an answer to all your questions 1) yes your character and exsisting Xbox live account will transfer to your new Xbox should you choose to get one 2) all of your old 360 game will be backwards compatible this September when all the new games and updates drop 3) there is a huge rivalry between ps and Xbox players but honestly there are next to 0 differences between the 2 consoles except for I think the ps4 has a tad bit better graphics based on popular opinion and the controllers are different, I personally like the layout of the Xbox controllers better but I've heard good things about the Ps4 controllers aswell Happy hunting!!

Get the 1TB Xbox One
-
Congratulations on the little one! I don't really have any suggestions about what console to go to. I have a PS4, I would also have a one but thinking of paying for both, online and games is just a bit much. It really comes down to what games are coming out for which, and which do you like more. If you want to just play games then either is fine. If you want to watch TV and do all the other things Xbox can then I'd say that would be the choice. I know, no real help but I really don't think me just pushing one or the other helps either. Hopefully you can figure it out!!

Heard the sega master systems are good.
-
It's up to you, both consoles are pretty much the same but ps4 has slightly better graphics and Xbox has better slightly processor if I can remember right. All that's different is the controllers and exclusive games or DLC for Xbox or ps
-
Get whatever you want...it really doesn't matter or bother non of us...good luck.
-
Since you already have a 360, upgrade to the One. That way you won't have to start over since all progress is shared between the same system family.
-
Way easier to transition from 360 to the one...same gametag, friends list, and now backwards compatibility for all of those 360 games you still have....sounds kinda like a no brainer. Xbox live is way better than the PS counterpart. The only thing PS4 has over XB1 in my opinion is graphics, but it is barely noticeable, if at all
-
I don't know why people always say that PS4 servers are unreliable I've only had problems that one time when it was being buggy. Other than that I have no problems with the play station servers
-
Xbox one. Xbox live more than pays for itself when you consider Games With Gold. Assassin's Creed 4 is free this month, and every two weeks another free game is thrown in.
-
Go with ps4 if you like the sound of crickets when your online playing or looking for games

Edited by TSL BestOfMe: 7/10/2015 3:41:22 PMIf you are going with PlayStation, then you might as well get the Taken King bundle. Personally, I'm going to be upgrading to Xbox One in about a month. The backwards compatibility is a huge reason why.
