Looking to upgrade my console, tell me what I should get and why

Get a PS4

2769

Get a Xbox One

3310

################################# Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before. I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems. I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun. Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself. Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it. Thanks again, guardians. ################################# I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get. Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions. For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc. If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over? Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what? Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft? As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

  • You already have a 360 library so backward compatibility is a huge plus for you. Also, XB1 is the grownups console. It does more than just play games, and as a dad, certain other things are also important. You want all your media in one place.

  • I can tell you from experience that the Xbox1 online service has been pretty unreliable the last few months and it's been pissing me off. I find myself playing PS4 a lot more lately.

  • You should probably look at the exclusives for both systems and decide what set appeals to you more.

    • If you move to Xbox you will keep your progress since you were recently on 360. If you move to play station you will have to start everything over

    • I am a PS4 gamer and I'm not going to be very biased here but you should go on Xbox One. I would say since 1. Stuff will transfer 2. You will have some friends there 3. You will not have to grind all over again 4. Since you will be having a kid you probably won't have time to grind all over again

        • I personally would go with the xb1 if i were you. I upgraded from the 360 to the xb1 a few months ago, and i had the same concern about transferring my saved data in Destiny. Everything you have on destiny will transfer to the xb1, because the data is profile based. Just activate your gamertag on the xb1 and you should be good to go. Congrats on future fatherhood!

          • I own both but I definitely prefer my PS4. I find that the X1 feels clunky in comparison and I'm not a huge fan of the dashboard or menu system. Game installs seem to take a lot more time on the Xbox as well. Anyone who argues graphics for either is just splitting hairs. Both systems have exclusives that look amazing and all other games that are on both consoles look pretty much identical. The backwards compatibility on The X1 is definitely a plus. I wish the PS4 would offer that as well. At the end of the day it's all a matter of opinion though. However sticking with Microsoft may be the easier route for you. The upgrade is cheaper and you're already signed up with the company. Plus you can transfer your Destiny progress over. Whichever you choose I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Good luck in the decision making man!

            • I didn't vote. I will say this though they both suck I went from a 360 to ps3 and I just upgraded to a ps4. I would've gotten an xbox1 but all my irl friends have a ps4. Based on that I made my decision. It's always more fun to play with people you know. Congratulations on the new Guardian!

              • While I play PS4 and believe it to be a better game console, if all your stuff is on 360 I think you can transfer it to the Xbox One. That's probably what I would do. I would actually go with whatever one has the people you like playing with.

              • Get whatever you fancy. Both are fine choices. I personally have a ps4. It's nice and I like what it offers. Plus from what I've heard we're getting new exclusives for destiny. But it's whatever you prefer

              • It comes down to a few factors. Exclusives/timed exclusives Console accessibility Console applications Console gaming potential Ps4 I can vouch for. It has a very fast time to just start playing, and when you play ps4 you will instantly notice the lower quality of graphics that the other consoles have. Most Activision games will have timed exclusive content with Sony so that includes destiny and call of duty. The controller is amazing to hold and it has so much potential. Ps+ is worth it's weight in gold. Xbox has backwards compatibility (but that might not be important if you keep your 360), graphics are lower but you have more apps, Kinect may sway your opinion but some games take away from Kinect's processing power. The new controller with paddles could be cool. It has notable exclusives like halo. Other than that you have to rely on others for a nice review of the Xbox one. Though I have to say that the Xbox looks like a VCR. Hopefully that gives you some insight to make an informed decision.

Well do you want a gaming console (PS4) with superior graphics, controller, Hawkmoon, PS+ (which is miles ahead of Xbox Live when it comes to the instant game collection) or an entertainment console (the otherbox), with, well, Halo and pretty much nothing else. And as far as servers go, PSN hasn't had any problems since Christmas the DDoS attacks, which effected both networks (Xbox Live and PSN).

                  • Not sure who told you PS4 online service was unreliable. Got mine late last year and haven't had any problems. Honestly though, it really depends on if you want a gaming system, or an entertainment system. For gaming, PS4. For entertainment, Xbox One.

                    • I have always been much happier with the single player games on Playstation then on Xbox. And if you are going to be a dad single player games are going to be a much better option then online games for the next several years
