How much will Destiny 2 improve on past mistakes?

On regards to the future of Destiny; Honestly, I'm worried for the future of Destiny 2. Nothing has been confirmed, but judging from the recent "Taken King" trademark and the earlier leaked picture of Destiny DLC it doesn't seem to be leaving Bungie much time to make improvements for the future... Or atleast, not in the very scale of magnitude the Destiny franchise deserves. I'm sure you all know what I'm referring to...
Story, Open world, Cutscenes, Succesful launch, Balanced PVE, Enemy variety, Raid Fixes, interesting characters, etc.
One thing that is confirmed, or atleast strongly mentioned to some extent, is carrying over player/character progression into Destiny 2. I'm curious to see what's the need for this, of course we'd all like to keep our cool gear and exotics... But have we really grown that "attached" to our actual characters? Or just the gear they carry? Maybe if there was some actual character development, *cough cough story *cough, then this would feel like something we'd actually need. ================================= Anyway, this has just been a small-ish discussion on the future of Destiny. Tbh, with Activision at the helm I'll always be a little worried, but I can only hope Bungie still has the drive to carry onward.

 • I'd like to believe they would take a more mature approach to the plot within directly alienating younger player bases. By this I mean telling an engrossing narrative that explains more about the world and the things in it. Moreover I'd quite like to see a world in which there is a gradual in game build up to larger events with continued support from Bungie. Not individualised instances where the 'next galaxy destroying threat appears'. Scenarios that slowly lead up to a final conclusion while conveying the what, why, who, and significance of your actions before finally throwing you into the deep end of a really important and exciting confrontation. Destiny seems to try to make each mission and individual experience which I feel somewhat detracts from the over all pacing and narrative. E.G- If you read the Grimoire cards about the Reef Wars THAT sounds exciting. Skirmishes, Battles, Plots, Intrigue, etc. 2-3 big battles punctuated by smaller conflicts.
