When bungie made halo, A: they had their story guy. They had a budget, people dont realize they left all their money at microsoft, and couldnt afford it. Budget yeah, money? Went to sony and activision. Those "dlc already on the disc?" No, it wasnt, every tuesday they put out small patches to Prep, and as things were added, people data mined and found the areas, then moaned about it. HALO? Completely different styled game then what destiny is, and will be. Dumb to compare the two directions. Obviously A LOT has changed. 40 dollars for A true expansion? That is more then the first two both had? And i pay 5$ more? -blam!- yeah. Its a good deal, your getting practically another game. Just sit in, relax, games such as these evolve. If you are a true "spartan" you would remember halo lacked story when it first dropped, gameplay, then the community got behind it THEN it blew up

  • 1) When Bungie made Destiny, they STILL HAD their story guy. Joseph Staten is the reason you have Guardians, Ghosts, the Traveler and everything else in the game. But then he bailed on them because of obvious shady bullcrap going down there, and they butchered his masterpiece to give you what you see today. 2) They had a budget of $500 million, while Halo 3 which goes leaps and bounds above Destiny only had a budget from Microsoft of roughly $60 million. No excuse for why Destiny turned out this way, cause they definitely had the funds for everything and so all their staff can live a very nice lifestyle for the next 10 years. 3) The DLCs were put together using recycled content, meaning the resources were on the disc. Day 1 and even during the Beta people were finding ways to get into the areas that were for Dark Below and House of Wolves. But these areas were not populated with enemies. That is because they WERE in the original version as part of the base game. But that all went hand in hand with the original storyline too, and that is what got torn apart in the end. So they couldn't launch the game as it was as a result of that, so instead of just giving us the DLCs for free like they should have, they decided to sell it all to us instead. If they wanted $40 for the TTK (which is not going to be a whole new game, don't get suckered into the hype. That's all Activision knows what to do to sell their nonsense), they shouldn't have tricked us into paying for crap that was already meant to be apart of our previous $60 purchase. 4) Halo: Combat Evolved had more depth and replay value than Destiny did at launch. Truth. Feel free to ask the countless others in this thread, all will agree.

  • Just cause its on the beta, doesnt mean it was on the full game? every game has skeletons of areas that are projected to be on at some point. They had their story guy, who wanted to take the game on his own, or whatever rumors were, and left. to which they couldnt afford to get another. how much do you know about TTK? you got proof? do you know anything at all about it? that 500 million dollar budget? was stretched over a TEN year period, because the deal they have, is 10 years long. thats the line they were given, which is you divide it out, is 50 million per year...so tell me more how it has a bigger budget? also, those halo games your naming? there wasnt a brand new console out, where 2/3 of the gaming population was on old consoles yet, so they had to scale the game down to compensate so they can still make a profit. Out of all of this? tell me how much you know about the taken king, just out of curiousity, other then the subclasses, and two new game modes.

  • You do realize, this is a true expansion, and destiny calls the other two dlcs "episodes" right? Still doesnt tell me what YOU know. Its what some one else has said.

  • Again, I feel like you keep side stepping what it is I'm saying. I get that you are a fan of Destiny. I do. But the blind devotion starts to look a little...disturbing, after a while. Both Dark Below and House of Wolves were labelled as "expansions" and that is why people didn't mind spending that much money for them. However, both were obviously not, in any way, shape or form deserving of being called such. Based on past history, we already know Bungie has an obvious brain defect when it comes to pricing the value of their content. Perfect example, $20 for the digital content from the Collector's Edition. They price value 3 emotes, 3 class items and 3 shaders at the exact same price as both Dark Below and House of Wolves. There's the pure consumer point of view for you. We also know that Bungie likes to make you grind for hours, days, weeks and months and then count that time for the total playtime of the content. Which is a farce. Of all the time I have spent on Destiny, 70% of it has been devoted to grinding, and no I did not enjoy myself during that time because I could have easily been playing something else instead. But I felt required to do it in order to get the things I wanted. And at the end of that road, once Dark Below dropped it was all rendered ultimately pointless, thus resulting in me quitting the game. Not taking a break, flatout quitting. It just so happened I had purchased the Expansion Pass at the Midnight Release of the game itself which included House of Wolves, and the Etheric Light was the ONLY reason I returned. And that goes for many others as well, as I have explained numerous times now. I don't like how quick to forgiveness you are. Its illogical. Even if you are a "fan" of Destiny, what you do and say makes little sense. I mean, you sound like an intelligent person, so you should easily be able to deduce the major flaws and problems with the series and understand everything I have been saying. In fact, what I am saying is all based on fact, so in truth you should be saying the same stuff I am, which is just odd that you aren't. I shouldn't have to explain any of this to you. The only argument you keep posing to me is that no one knows what will be in this new expansion. And that is true, and you know that to be true which is why you keep tossing it at me. But that point you are making is a double edged sword, because YOU don't work at Bungie and so YOU don't know what will be in TTK either. At which point, all we have to go off of is as I said, past experience. And past experience with Bungie and this game is NOT good, at all. That is as much a fact as you saying no one knows what will be in the next expansion. Bungie themselves even said that they made considerable mistakes with the Dark Below and apologized for it. Etheric Light was one of the things they tried to do to make amends for that because after Dark Below, their pre-order sales were horrible and Destiny was receiving a crap load of negative publicity and poor reviews. But Destiny shouldn't have to be in THAT bad of a condition for them to finally decide to do something. And now that House of Wolves got our attention back? And a lot of those who left the community started to come back? They need to NOT -blam!- it up. Unfortunately, they are -blam!-ing it up with TTK, because the pricing is total and utter nonsense. It adds insult to injury, and the Luke Smith interview blew the lid off it. And the ONLY thing that they could do for us was to give us MORE shit to buy, instead of just GIVING that digital content to people for free as apart of the $40 purchase of TTK as an apology. Nothing Bungie has done or said actually shows them as being sincere about being sorry to anyone. Its all just PR crap with the usual circle jerk for the game to try and snag you with hype. But the only ones that are going to fall for that are the morons or new players or those who haven't picked up the game yet and will be able to take advantage of the Legendary Edition.

  • You kinda ran your points together there. Also, I feel as though you ignored what I was saying. 1) Programmers ripped the disc data and checked the files. They found the resources on the disc, bud. Its legit, the content for both DLCs was essentially already on there, just disjointed and not active. They needed to recode the programs and A.I. for the unpopulated areas. 2) The $500 million was for the initial launch and development period of the game. It is not a "10 year long" budget. Roughly $200 million of that number was put towards marketing for the game, to hype it up. That leaves $300 million leftover for development, which is still ridiculous huge, again compared to Halo 3. Also, the $60 million for Halo 3 also included marketing costs, which was around half of that. So development for Halo 3 was $30 million. 3) Joseph Staten, the "story guy", was a key member of the Bungie Team. Destiny was his masterpiece, his brainchild. We already know there was a great deal of disagreement between him and what Activision was wanting, and he refused to accept it and have his name and reputation attached to this version of Destiny we were sold. So he voluntarily left the company of his own accord. They could afford another story writer, and they did. Fact is, they decided to butcher Joseph Staten's Destiny. 4) Destiny started development for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It was a Last Gen title. A PS4 and Xbox One version was made after the fact, following a business deal between Sony and Activision to use Destiny as a flagship title for the PS4, at which point even more money was thrown at them. Day 1 Launch, Destiny sales had already generated well over the $500 million that was spent on its development and release. 5) What I know is that there are going to be additional Strikes added. A new Raid and a new location. However, there is still recycled resources from the original version being used in TTK. Example, Phobos, the moon of Mars which you can see right now on your director on the game. Its been there from the start, and closed door testing and developer interviews revealed all this stuff already. Like Saturn and Mercury which were already developed. Do I know 100% what is going to actually be in TTK? No. But neither do you. That being said, all anyone has to go off of is what we have already seen. Based on that, there is very little expectation for this expansion.

  • i mean, this may seemed as a more "pro destiny" response then what i wanted it to be. my point is im banking in for the long haul, yes they screwed up A LOT of things. but part of the issue is you gotta look at information at whats given to you. 1. You got one thing, a major flaw, for most games who dropped within the first two years of ps4, is a majority of players were still on last gen consoles. so 2/3 of your profit is on one, and 1/3 moved to new. A lot said they just of committed to just new consoles, but then thats 2/3 of the profit they are losing. They wouldnt of made money, so just like watch dogs, just like the sports game that dropped in the first year, they were scaled back to fix that reason. thats part of the reason why we didnt get a full exploration area. they had a 500 million dollar budget but they also had counter deals to pay publisher based on the amount of sales they accumulated...which was activision. so we can boast about the money made, but in reality bungie still had small amounts to work with. 2. This leads to my second point, that even you have to admit, the game has improved greatly from day 1. Part of the issue is the community was so toxic in terms of gunplay, they had no choice but to please one, and overcompensated. same reason how they cant predict how fast people would hit 30. So with the dark below, i agree with you, it was terrible. no content at all (i payed for season pass so i only dropped 35$ total) everything was done in a week. i hated destiny and the route it was going. i didnt play it for three months, dealing with all the rumors of a "super hard VoG" and other things. So when HoW dropped, it was a MAJOR improvement. after the bounty glitch was patched, they had two new rep factions to work with that actually take time. The arena is a great concept, still needs small adjustments like rotating the buffs for skolas other then the burns (which is obv changed, but general buffs rounds 1-5 are not rotated), PvP in trials was awesome, by far my favorite game mode at this time. That to me, compensated for their screw up with The dark below. By far i still have to finish reputation and get ToO weapons that i do not have yet, and thats with me flawlessing about 9-10 times now. 3. Community will make this game change. We must stop comparing it to halo for PvP, and comparing it to that of CoD in terms of weapons. Halo didnt have subclasses with elements, it was straight up gunplay, you couldnt even sprint in Halo, the originals? im pretty sure. so to compare this PvP to that one is absurd as a point. They just need to find a way to weed out those who are toxic, complaining every time a nerf occurs and leave the game how it is. Personally, day 1 i had no problem with PvP. everything was balanced, the only "iffy" factor was hand cannons, which could of had a small buff, and everything would still been equal. but soooo many people were mad about auto rifles, and fusion rifles, and whatever else, they nerfed them, and buffed hand cannons and shottys, so it should be interesting to see what they deal with on rebalancing weapons. 4. Previously i was skeptical of TTK. extremely skeptical, but i started watching videos/streams from those who were at E3 and most people extremely enjoyed, or said this was a major step and a true expansion in the right direction. Rumors i heard off the board right now, other then the three subclasses, and two game modes, is theres still crucible modes to be announced yet, rumors over 300 legendarys to be added, over 50 exotics, light level boosted all the way to 50. now yes only one new area to explore/one new planet, but they are adding another 5 areas to the star map. whole new events other then Iron Banner, new public events to run through, more in depth story. Thats just some rumors ive heard, and for 40$ that is more, substantially more then what we got in "expansion 1+2" which was renamed to "episodes" if you ask developers. This is the TRUE expansion that you want to bank on. Just to close sake of this argument, as i see you are intelligent as well, just either keep watch, dont focus on the negative things people want to gloat about, doesnt matter what either of us say will change your mind, mine, etc. if yo u at the end of the day feel its worth 40 dollars near launch, im sure youll grab, if not there is other games dropping that will compensate. trust me, if it falls through that TTK is bad, ill be just as dissapointed, but in a game that has a 10 year contract, with all the adversity shit they had to go through, with a whole new styled game they had to make, im hoping the TTK was gone through carefully, and that well get a 40$ worth product. As DEEJ has said, they will be discussing everything the box will include, since they are aware of people being skeptical. Good Day man, was nice having a good convo with you!

  • ...Huh? 1) Don't get me wrong, its great that you actually responded to the points I was making, but you're really off base about the numbers and finances. $500 million was given to Bungie. Period. This was all for the initial launch title, and the majority of it went into development with a third dumped into marketing, because Activision. Second, whats on one console versus what is on another makes no actual difference. You actually stand to gain MORE from going cross console and that includes Last Gen and Next Gen as well. Activision made a killing because its gross profit margin for Destiny was from across the board, the numbers being an accumulation of sales for ALL consoles (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4). They also didn't have to scale anything back, nor did it cost them any additional because they had a crap ton of funding poured into them after the fact by Sony and their backroom deal with Activision (Hence all the Sony Exclusives). 2) Actually, Alpha and Beta tests easily indicated how quickly players could and would progress through the levels. Destiny is not an RPG, its an MMOFPS that had a level system built into it which greatly revolves around gear, aka "Light Level". That was all planned from the get go. I also don't agree that the game has actually become "better" aside from there just being a few more things to do. Dark Below gave us a Raid and a Strike. House of Wolves gave us Trials of Osiris, Prison of Elders and a few more Story Missions. And this was for a combined price of $40 which is what they value TTK at, hence why you see so many people being skeptical about it. Likewise, on that subject, that also explains why people have been demanding a price cut for TTK. Because if Bungie is claiming that TTK's content is greater than the vanilla base game, Dark Below AND House of Wolves combined? Then that is literally them admitting to everyone that the community was greatly overcharged for both DLCs. THAT is the reason you see so much hate regarding the price tag. Another thing to point out in regards to why I disagree about the game being better now, is that the world events/activities such the Hive Swordbearers invading Earth and, following the launch of TTK, the Wolf Packs appearing on Earth, Moon and Venus are just gone. The Hive stuff is already gone. They plan on doing this each and every time a new DLC/Expansion/Whatever they want to cal them gets released. Which is beyond moronic. I am of the solid opinion that MORE is BETTER. There is zero reason to replace those events in the open world. I happen to greatly enjoy going along to my objective on Earth and suddenly read the message "Wolf Pack is Prowling" and then go off to waste the suckers. I was annoyed to see that the Hive stuff was gone, though. And for why? What possible reason could there be? No one knows how many Swordbearers are on Earth. No one knows how many House of Wolves there are lurking around out there. From a writer's perspective, there is PLENTY of justification to continue running those events. And they are generated randomly by the server, meaning its not taxing the system or network in the slightest. Seriously, the only thing that it means to keep all those events going is that you get far more diversity in the open world environment and less repetitive action. That to me sounds like a no brainer, common sense. And yet no, just gone. And the same will happen with the Taken Army from TTK as well once the next DLC hits, because Bungie-Logic, apparently. And yes, they did actually confirm their intention to do this, each and every time. And the ONLY way to stop them from doing crap like that is to unify the community and throw the breaks on it and DEMAND that they stop screwing shit up like that. 3) For the record, I'm not saying I want Destiny to be Halo. That's impossible. The whole point of this thread, however, was to draw the comparison in "game/story quality" between the two. Because Halo is a franchise that Bungie did BEFORE Destiny. So Halo itself has become a testament to what the company is capable of and in fact, Bungie themselves are known to brag about it. But when you compare the number of options, level/mission design, overall story and immersion aspect of Halo to Destiny? Destiny is hands down a massive disappointment and a waste of potential for what COULD have been originally. Example. Did you know that the enemy drop ships you see in the game were originally capable of being destroyed? Yes, if you had enough people slamming them with Rocket Launchers, you could waste them before they were able to deploy the soldiers within. That's actually the reason, if you ever manage to hit it right, you can see them suckers actually have their own health bar. There are plenty of other things missing from the game still that continue to prove this point as well. Now, as far as the PvP goes? It is actually based on Halo. Bungie recycled their infrastructure from the Halo series and re-purposed it for Destiny's Crucible. And by Infrastructure I mean the Combat Mechanics, Physics Engine, TTK (Time To Kill) Values, etc. That's something they actually got right, they figured if its not broke, why fix it. So yeah, that's why the gameplay comes so natural to Halo players, and that actually goes for the general PvE in the game too. The PvP is also NOTHING like COD (FYI, I hate that whole franchise, with the exception of Titanfall). The guns aren't even comparable, either. Again, all the combat mechanics, including weapon stats and handling were all taken from the Halo series. A Shotgun is Destiny plays and feels exactly the same as a Shotgun in Halo. Seriously. Same goes for Sniper Rifles. Rocket Launchers feel different, but you can see the bits of it that were recycled from Halo as well. The rest of the weapons are more unique, but still obviously follow along the same premise that Bungie has been using for years. COD players will never get a COD experience playing Destiny, that just won't happen. I don't think people are "toxic", either. I don't really agree that they need to be removed, either. I mean, I don't even feel that way about the few number of trolls that managed to find their way to this thread, which you can see if you scroll through. Trolls and just everywhere. However, I don't equate people demanding Nerfs/Buffs for weapons to mean they are bad people or bad for the community. In most cases, they are just feeling pissed off. I can understand and respect that, because I know we have all been there. Personally? I don't like the idea of nerfing things because once you start nerfing, the nerfs just keep on happening until the game is turned to utter crap. I WILL, however, agree with others that I think whatever changes they make to weapons in PvP needs to NOT cross over into the PvE. Like at all. Case in point, there was no reason for them to hit Auto Rifles as hard as they did, and even LESS reason to mess with them for PvE. 4) I'm not decided on TTK one way or another. As you have previously pointed out, no one knows anything about what is actually going to be in it, so I can't really judge it until the thing hits and there are reviews for it. However, no amount of content will suffice if they do not allow me to continue ascending my old weapons and armor. They could add 1,000 Legendary items and 500 Exotics for all I care. The decision to "trade out" old stuff for new should be my choice, not something that is forced upon me. That is going to be the grand, ultimate deciding factor for me with TTK, along with MANY many others... We already quit the game once when Dark Below did it. This time we haven't already spent our money on this, so there is even less reason for us to care about it if they end up repeating their same mistakes again. Because really, 10 year contract is great and all, but this series is quickly becoming more costly than some of the most top notch MMORPGs out there that have way more going for them. I think that mostly stems from, again, the fact that they overcharged everyone for Dark Below and House of Wolves. If they had just given people those two for free from the start, none of this would even be an issue for folks. I can promise that, even. Anyways, yeah. Nice chatting with ya, here's hoping Bungie actually reads all this feedback everyone has been giving them and run with it for the sake of improving the game and making it what we all know its fully capable of becoming. Cheers~
