Playing Destiny Under Age

Although this is an old, already discussed problem, I believe that we can still change. I feel that the majority of players that play Destiny are under the appropriate age for shooters. I think this age should be 18 and over. I'll give you a few reasons. 1)It causes traumatic situations. I for one do not want my child flinching and screaming away every time they see somebody holding a sword. 2) It causes anti-social instincts to grow. When you think about it, the average session a child will play in Destiny is three to four hours. That's three to four hours where the only communication the are getting is with people they have met over the Internet. I don't want children growing older and being scared of every person they see. 3) It teaches them bad words. Every lobby I go into, there is always that person (usually a child) screaming curse words for no good reason. Where did they find out these words? From older players. If there was a minimum age, you would not have this problem. Children are getting angrier because of this game. 4) My final reason is that it causes violence. No 10 year old should be able to make another creatures head explode, or shoot other players virtually. What happens when that transfers to the real world? That anger and frustration would lead to much property being desecrated including Mailbox Baseball Laser Tag TPing Houses Egging Cars Multiple holes in the wall from being punched. ANY PERSON who do not follow these rules should be arrested with a minimum 2 year sentence. Thank you all for the support you give me. I believe that a change to only 18 year olds and over would make the worlds youth safer and more intelligent than currently.

  • Me and my 11 year old play together. He hears swear words at school, occasionally from me (I'm teaching him the beauty of using language mindfully and with intention and not avoiding subjects) and knows the difference between saying -blam!- and -blam!- off to somebody so it isn't an issue through chat. The game to us is a puzzle or a sport, it just so happens that the game is pretty with world physics and textures. We don't really see it as marine training for an alien invasion in real life and he's the least violent being I know. That won't change...it's all down to the parenting or whether your child already has some social issues. The key is to not let gaming be their sole hobby. We play badminton and football regular and next year he'll be going to his first festival with me. Now if this was GTA with its ridiculous strippers and pimps everywhere and swearing for the sake of it, i would agree. As it is we love us a good fps match. It's a beautiful escapism and destiny is one of the more child friendly of them out there right now.

High school taught me bad words waay more than video games did. I never curse in public, but in my work I found cursing infront of colleagues to be actually good. It can warm people up to you and let's people know you're not a little bitch. I have formed more friendships by cursing at the right time at the right moments either by showing I'm a lax character who people would like to work with or someone who takes matters seriously and shows urgency through saying a curse word.

    • In the UK, the game is a 16 and therefore nobody under that age should be playing it. The reality is however that kids have access to far worse games than destiny from their parents and nothing seems to stop that. I know of a 9year old that plays GTA having been given it from his auntie and I was like 'wtf is wrong with you?!'

    • While I agree that the game should be rated "M" it's not for the reasons you stated, which could all be mitigated with good parenting. I think the game should be rated "M" because it would be more fun. That is all...oh, and Obligatory "OP is fgt".

        • I really...what...seriously? My two kids (12 & 14) play this game everyday, both doing very well in school, have a healthy social life and are well rounded human beings. I've encouraged them to play Destiny, in fact my youngest kids reading has come on leaps and bounds since he started playing.

        • The only point you have going for you is the language. Everything else is COMPLETE BATSHIT. I've played 1000s of hours of shooters, jrpgs, rts, and anything else you can think of. I have a pretty awesome life and i wasn't screaming or scared of people because of video games. You think that those kids don't get social interaction online? You're stupider than I thought

            • No just no, you're probably one of those people that blame violent video games and media for the worlds problems. Shitty parents cause those problems by not teaching a child You can lose Its a -blam!-ing video game Play games in moderation Once again, its a -blam!-ing video game I could go on but theres no point I'm fifteen, I've been playing shooting games and violent video games since I was little but my parents taught me well. And just another thought, if your kid cant deal with guns and gore at 13, the age for this game... Tell him to grow the -blam!- up.

              • Really? Flinching and screaming when they see someone holding a sword? You think any kid over the age of 13 would actually be scarred by this game? The rating by the ESRB on this game is perfect. PEGI also did quite a good job considering the differences between the 2. No kid under 13 should be playing anything rated T or above

                    • If there's no parental guidance (welcome to the "it takes a village" era) then you're partially correct. If decent parental guidance provides perspective, a kid could watch autopsies and be fine (mostly).

                      • 1. Rated T for Teen 2. You actually talk and interact to people you play with unless you play solo. 3. Kids will learn swear words anyway from school. 4. If you truly believe video games cause violence, go to a mental hospital. 5. Laser Tag is a lot of fun. 6. If your dumbass logic is applied, half the people in the world would be in jail. 7. You're not getting any support in the comments. 8. Only way to make Youth more intelligent is to make schools tougher. 9. OP is fgt

                        • Only thing I agree with is the cussing but you always have that risk everywhere. Also video games dont cause school shootings people who have issues do. I believe destiny builds leadership skills and other good qualities also how many people are ACTUALLY 18 and own COD or any M rated game.
