Playing Destiny Under Age

Although this is an old, already discussed problem, I believe that we can still change. I feel that the majority of players that play Destiny are under the appropriate age for shooters. I think this age should be 18 and over. I'll give you a few reasons. 1)It causes traumatic situations. I for one do not want my child flinching and screaming away every time they see somebody holding a sword. 2) It causes anti-social instincts to grow. When you think about it, the average session a child will play in Destiny is three to four hours. That's three to four hours where the only communication the are getting is with people they have met over the Internet. I don't want children growing older and being scared of every person they see. 3) It teaches them bad words. Every lobby I go into, there is always that person (usually a child) screaming curse words for no good reason. Where did they find out these words? From older players. If there was a minimum age, you would not have this problem. Children are getting angrier because of this game. 4) My final reason is that it causes violence. No 10 year old should be able to make another creatures head explode, or shoot other players virtually. What happens when that transfers to the real world? That anger and frustration would lead to much property being desecrated including Mailbox Baseball Laser Tag TPing Houses Egging Cars Multiple holes in the wall from being punched. ANY PERSON who do not follow these rules should be arrested with a minimum 2 year sentence. Thank you all for the support you give me. I believe that a change to only 18 year olds and over would make the worlds youth safer and more intelligent than currently.
It teaches them bad words
Ahem... Online interactions are not rated by the ESRB. Just let him know that if he's ever caught saying them he'll be severely punished. Say... Idk, banned from Destiny for a few days, a week at most.

    • Surely this is Satire? If it's not I'm not even gonna get into it with you. Video games don't make you any more violent than watching a horror film. It's up to you as a parent to make sure your child understands the difference between right and wrong, and real and fake. If they are spending too much time and effort in the thralls of a videogame, you have no one but yourself to blame as a parent.

    • Games are not the problem. Parents cause violent behaviour, kids that have been brought up well, to teach them what's right and what's wrong don't become psychopaths. Kids that have anger issues have been abused themselves.

Online interaction isn't rated by esrb duh and also there's this magical thing called parenting and it's their job to make sure that their kid doesn't become an anti-social serial killer. Bungie just puts out the game, it's not their responsibility to parent and babysit squeakers

A couple points. A) this game has very little graphic depictions of gore. B) it has no profanity in the campaign. (Words have no meaning until you gave them one. A little kid doesn't know what -blam!- is until it is given any value) C) 18+ is a rating reserved for the goriest, most profane, sexually explicity, and traumatic games. Even call of duty has an M rating as opposed to an A rating. D) minecraft has swords. Should it be 17+? E) the games cause an immediate frustration. This frustration is found in even puzzle games. Video games do not cause violence. They cause frustration for not being good at something F) little kids swear. They are immature. They most likely learned those words from their older siblings and told their friends. G) the internet actually grows social behavoir. To do raids, they need to meet people. Unless they are in patrol or doing the campaign, they will be playing with many people. This encourages social behavoirs. H) 10 year olds aren't allowed to play. It's ages 13+. I) I hope to god that this is satire with the 2+ year sentence J) how weak do you think the mind is? You are attacking a game that has no profanity (players don't count) no sexual content, no drugs or alcohol, no gore, or anything that would give it a M (mature 17+, the standard for shooter games) rating yet you want it to be rated A (adult 18+. Almost unused)

      • Dude primary and high school has 10x more swearing than destiny and if your really that worried the out him/her in a private party with no one else but friends so the. You can't hear destiny As for violence that is infact very rare for that to happen over a game most incidences are rumours proven to be false accusations for the companies to get more hype...it's reverse psychology so more people defend the game and buy it to prove it's not going to do that And with anti-social you are totally wrong. I'm 13 and I play destiny around that time but so are my school friends who live pretty far away so to hang out you need to plan it a few days in advance and it's just too hard. So being able to party up with my friends and do stuff with them is so much fun and social. And 2 years is way to harsh and your completely wrong cos you have to be over 10 to even go to a juvenile prison anyway.(at least where i live) also if it was that bad it would be R18+ and you can't judge the kid all he/she did was ask his/her parent was the one who bought it for him/her because of that age he/she needs a parents permission. Also he/she is fighting aliens not humans and it's you have no idea whether the hostile is exo or not so basically he/she not going to grab a gun and kill humans because they aren't the true enemy it's aliens and there is no swearing in the story's dialogue so therefor it can only be rated M, also there is no blood/gore so that's why it's not rated MA15+ or R18+. In conclusion think before you write and don't write this because you hate twelvies it's not your age it's how you act.

          • I dont see your point as valid. Destiny is a shooter, yes...but theres no blood or gore and the violence you're protesting is far from other games set in a truer to life setting (ie GTA) that you might argue would a geater chance of negatively impact upon a young and impressionable mind. Truth is...real life is far harsher and violent than any video game could be. This game doesn't warrant a higher age rating. If you're worried about parties and bad language then its upto us the players to act accordingly and moderate our language if kids are in group, and if kids are using bad language...then tell them to stop...boot them from the group...and if need be report them. The players have a responsibilty to educate the less knowledgeable for raids etc...this is just an extension of that...so why not speak up if kids are being out of order online?

            • Me and my 11 year old play together. He hears swear words at school, occasionally from me (I'm teaching him the beauty of using language mindfully and with intention and not avoiding subjects) and knows the difference between saying -blam!- and -blam!- off to somebody so it isn't an issue through chat. The game to us is a puzzle or a sport, it just so happens that the game is pretty with world physics and textures. We don't really see it as marine training for an alien invasion in real life and he's the least violent being I know. That won't change...it's all down to the parenting or whether your child already has some social issues. The key is to not let gaming be their sole hobby. We play badminton and football regular and next year he'll be going to his first festival with me. Now if this was GTA with its ridiculous strippers and pimps everywhere and swearing for the sake of it, i would agree. As it is we love us a good fps match. It's a beautiful escapism and destiny is one of the more child friendly of them out there right now.
