Skill Over Grimoire or Grimoire Over Skill

OK, so I had this argument with one of my friends friend. He was saying he was better than me in skill. I said, he can't even solo Crota or even a Nightfall! And his grimoire is sh*tty! He replied saying that grimoire doesn't mean anything! I reply as saying yes it does, it matches you up with people around the same grimoire. People with higher grimoire have "more skill" and people with lower grimoire have "less skill". I have higher grimoire than many but most of my friends have more than mine: 3175, the people around there have "high" skill. The grimoire at 3000+ tend to be the best players, the people below 2000 tend to be the worst players. This is just my speculation. But I say Grimoire is over skill. But he says Skill over grimoire. What do you prefer?

  • Two types of good people. Being good at pvp or being good at pve. Grimoire does not mean anything it show skill.

Grimmoire over skill mainly because your grimoire is the root of your skill may sound confusing, let me put it this way if your at lets say 1000 then it defiantly will state they have not accomplished more, if they have it high then they have master tons of thing. However you can never find out who really is better at crucible unless they had custom games to do 1v1s lol

  • To me I judge people based on the grimoire because 9/10 times they're good if they're grimoire score is over 3000 or high 2000s. But there are those rare times that people don't have a lot of grimoire and they're awesome at the game.

  • You're comparing apples and oranges. The two things are mutually exclusive and a low grimoire player can have high skill or low skill just as much as a high grimoire player can have either. Problem is grimoire is a objective measurement (ie, something you can see and quantify) whereas skill is a subjective measurement (there is no numerical measure... It's best guess or interpretation). It is true that higher grimoire "usually" means more skill cuz just like most things, the more you practice/play the better you are but there will always be freaks out there that are particularly talented but haven't been around long. Skill > Grimoire (and so you don't think I'm a biased noob, my grimoire is 3620) but sadly no way to measure skill really other than playing and seeing so grimoire serves as a relatively decent substitute.

  • I have never heard or seen people get match via Grimoire. Personal experience was that i mainly get match with people all over, some under 1000, some under 2000, some under 3000, and some over its all over the place. Even in Osiris, its all over the place, I've rarely come across a team consisting of an average of over 3000 (yes i did the math for both their team and my team.) One of my friends which started later than I did by a a good 2-3 months, and his/her grimoire was lower than 2000 (now its around 2500 i think) and they are in all honesty a better destiny player. Skill beats out in some parts for some moments, but having experience also helps out. The more he/she played, the more he/she learned. So probably saying is that grimoire means nothing important, you've just been on a grind for more information, just bragging rights, or even just a big number (cause that is what its all about). having a grimoire near 3500, I don't look at grimoire as a term of skill, but a term of how much effort and time you've been in the game. But as they say, you can't just a book by its cover. You'll never know when you'll be impressed.

    • You're a -blam!-en moron If you believe high grimiore means shit. I have a lower grimiore and I'd wipe the floor with you in crucible or anything else. You barely can stay positive, you have a 1.0 kd. Your grimiore isn't helping you for shit.

    • Grimoire score is more based on experience playing. Somebody who just started playing and is amazing at it, constantly getting headshots on dregs that actually pose a challenge, have high skill but low grimoire. Another person that has done every activity giving them a high grimoire score might have worse aim and less skill with the mobility types than that new player that has almost perfect accuracy. However, that new player looks less skilled because they may be using an auto rifle because they don't have the experience to know they are now crap.

    • I'd choose skill over grimoire but when joining unknown players we don't know their skill level. Grimoire is a nice indicator for experience

    • Skill over grimoire. Grimoire is just achievement hunter shit, it doesn't represent skill. Unless it's less than 2000.... That's just bad

I'll smash most in pvp. If I wanted to play a pve game I would play wow. Grim means nothing.

      • It has no relationship. High grim = high play time. You can get everything if you have enough time to play a lot and are good at finding ghosts.

        • I'd say for the MAJORITY of the time at least for me, high grimoire=high skill and low grimiore=low skill. Just how it is usually when someone has high grimiore from playing a lot they tend to have that better skill.

        • I'm told I have high grimmoire but does it really mean that I'm highly skilled? No not really. I can run hard raids and the 35 prison well enough, but still can't run it well enough for a flawless achievement. I suck in pvp but sometimes I have my moments and actually go positive when lag works in my favor. I have a high grimmoire because I've been playing since day one. I got bored and went on a ghost hunt. I spent some time patrolling and doing public events and killing every damn ogre I could find. I even killed a gorgon. Its pretty simple to get a high score if you have the time. Grimmoire score does not always equal skill.

        • Grimoire is an indicator of dedication (grinding and searching for ghosts) and is nothing morelse than 1 piece of determining a player's usefulness for me. You can have high Grimoire and still lack any skill, or have a high skill level/low grimoire but not know what you are doing.

        • In my observation high Grimoire means you are experienced in PVE. You don't have to have the fights explained to you as you have probably played them several times and you know what to do and where to be. I don't think that's really a measure of SKILL. PVP is about skill. Grimoire means nothing in PVP. Therefore Grimoire has almost no correlation to Skill.

          • I have a low grimoire and everyone higher than mine still won't say they better than me. I can solo anything that's solo-able. Taught everyone how to run sword on crota.(at that time). Been to the lighthouse multiple times. So no, grimoire just means u went hunting for all the ghosts and gold chests. Not skill based
